in real life religion (christianity) limbo is a place where people go that won't be send to burn forever BUT are not eligible for heaven either.

Its the realm that exists between ours and heaven/hell. People where originally sent here if they never sinned enough to burn in hell, but they never fulfilled the requirements to come into heaven. However, a majority of these souls were granted access to heaven after Jesus's sacrifice. The Limbo universe are also sometimes described as our "mirror/parallel world", which may be what Kishi went for. A clone of Madara that moves within Limbo can affect both worlds though can only been seen within Limbo.

Limbo is the part in between our realm and heaven/hell. So in the same belief, you would be able to escape both places in some sense.

Lol. I'm not going there. It's not the case. However, there is the Hadean realm. Where your soul goes after death to await Judgement day. And it waits in either Paradise or Torments.

In the Death Note series, there is no heaven or hell. Just the normal realm, the Shinigami realm and Mu (nothingness).

No the Purgatory is the place where the souls are purified for the last time so that they can go to Heaven, Limbo is the place where souls that have made no sins but haven't been baptized go. It goes against the Jesus teachings but oh well...
