People have the wrong complaint about wayne. When he first started getting hot there's no question for me, he was indeed the best RAPPER alive. to put out that much material without writing it down is just insane within itself. then you factor in the man's wordplay and metaphors...! What he DOES suck at is SONGWRITING. He can't make hooks or write about anything meaningful, but to say he can't RAP is just not true.
I completely agree with this. Wayne was the best rapper alive from around 05-08. He sold over a million copies the first week with C3, and almost did it again with C4. In a generation of illegal downloading, that is quite incredible. I do believe C3 was his last good piece of music he put out, but i won't go as far as saying he is absolutely terrible. But from a former "Wayne head", the content he used to put out and what he does now, simply doesn't compare. Not to mention, the stuff he wears and how he promotes himself. He just gives people a reason to hate him.

But anyways, i will continue listening to his old sh*t, like C2 & C3, Da Drought, Old Dedications, No Ceilings, etc, back when he WAS the best rapper alive.

This is what i've been trying to get at,most people just disagree.

I know nowadays everyone hates Lil Wayne except a few, don't get me wrong he fell off but he doesn't suck. He's just a decent rapper now, but 4-7 years ago when he made Carter II, Carter III, and Da Droughts/Dedication mixtapes, would you say he was the best rapper alive at that point? I would.
Lil wayne didn't fall off wth, he was never even on to begin with. He was shit back then, and he's even shittier now. I think the only tolerable song he's ever made was "Hustler Musik". As far as being the best rapper alive goes, don't make me laugh, even Ne-Yo is better than Lil Wayne.

Hip Hop is dead....rap is dying.

Their are only very few conscious, lyrical rappers left now. Their music won't be heard the way it's meant to be heard.

CNN? They do operate on a global scale but what do you call their operation? Propaganda young minded one....

Nas
Tech n9ne
Lupe Fiasco
Eminem
Hopsin
Lowkey

This list is pathetic because I should be able to name over 20 conscious lyrical rappers in today's game...but that list is far from ever being complete.

I'll be sad when rap dies. When rappers like Lil' Wayne stop using the N word a bunch of times, and rap about something meaningful again then rap will be revived. I remember when Eminem was in his prime. Those were the days. Even though I would know nothing about Tupac and rapping back then, but I know that it's 100% better than it is these days...

Lil Wayne is a version lyricist that, went from a rapper to a crossover star. He left the confines of hip hop and crossovered into a new demographic, which is why he blew up eventhough in the hip hop world he was already near the top. But best rapper alive still goes to Jay-Z, not even close.
