True he did, but the two were fighting very different battles. Try putting them in each other's shoes. Yeah, Light might not have done as well with the Black Knights as Lelouch did, but do you really think Lelouch is smart enough to pit against L?

Both interesting characters who were my favorites out of their series. But by making a choice I'll have to say Lelouch. His manipulations and cognitive skills brought him over impossible premises not guided by God-like affairs. He made it damn well far and even took the throne at some point. Light only lived to do his job as Kira and made no general impact on his society in the end, besides an elaborate influence that only strayed for so long.

Light had a huge advantage over L.

As did L over Light. Lelouch would have that same advantage if he were pitted against him, as well, but I still believe he would've slipped up long before Light did.

Lelouch would've killed L the moment he saw L. Or got him to commit suicide. Either way, he would've succeeded much more easily than Light.

As for intelligence, I think they're both just about as smart as each other. I think Lelouch edges it though. He was more daring and orchestrated larger schemes.
