Tobi is a liar... he likes to manipulate ppl, but who knows, maybe he was telling the truth about that.

yeah with Tobi anything he says could be taken as a lie until proven otherwise

now when you ask was he lieing to konan during there fight do you mean about him being impressed? as I think he was as, without izangi he would have died

its not fully his plan its madaras but yeah he was using akasutki towards his goal.
Tobi is a prep master it shouldn't suprise you

and we don't have the exact conditions behind nagato awakening his rinnegan
some think tobi implanted them
others think he had been implanted with uchiha dna (as he is an uzumaki)

I like the new theory that his family is a mix of uchiha and uzumaki/senju blood due to mixing of the genepools at one point in is his family lineage.

As it has already been stated, Tobi is telling lies or half truths, therefore I think that none can be 100% sure about everything.
For example Nagato's Rinnengan. Could it be possible that he gave away such a gift like that? Or he gave it away while making future and long term plans? There are many possibilities here, but I am sure that Kishi will give us the answers we need soon, or at least some flashbacks will reveal everything.
But one thing is for sure, if Nagato awakened his Rinnengan on his own, then it could be due to some long lost link of the Uzumakis and perhaps Nagato is a long, long, long relative of Rikudo Sennin, aka the Sage of Six Paths.
Personally I would love to see this thing being true since it would be a great twist and plot in the whole story.
I like your idea/theory though, I would +rep you if I knew how to.

i don`t think Tobi was lying about that one. first, the rinnengan is the next level of the sharingan, am i wrong? and Tobi have acces to many sharingans, so it`s sound possible that he implanted the eyes in nagato. then,konan was going to die anyway, so why lying to her?

I had totally forgotten that Tobi has lots of Sharingans in his disposal, how foolish of me -facedesks-
But anyway, perhaps, and it is something I just though, perhaps Tobi did implant the Sharingan on Nagato in an early age --without him having said anything or seen anything so far-- and instead of awakening a MS due to his parents' deaths, he awakened the Rinnengan due to the emotional stress and due to his bloodline being an Uzumaki. But this is just a thought, I can not tell for sure.

It's hard to take a guy seriously when he spends half of a series lying about being one of the most powerful Shinobi who died at least 100 years ago. Personally, I think Tobi was lying to Konan, but only time will tell.
