[Discussion] Lie Detector .. Good ?

Lately I've been seeing a lot of new and articles through the internet that Scientists are trying to make lie detectors for each individual and I wondered.

Is that good or bad ? People usually lie in the daily basis.

Well this make the world worse or better?
- I truly hate this person (Fighting about it)
- No more "fake" people (See if that person really considers you a friend)
- Did you kill/jumped/punched etc. this person ? (Easy court trials)

Those are just some things to use it for.​

Lie detectors do not and have not ever worked. If you ever get into legal trouble, never submit to one. It can only hurt your chances regardless if you're guilty or innocent.

i think it could be bad, commenting on the easy court trials. if these lie detectors become known to be truly accurate every time, than they can be used to put innocent people away by rigging the person to fail the lie dector even if they were telling the truth, because in the end science can do miraculous things, including letting crooked people(trust me this world is ful of them) set up innocent people for there own benefit. think about it, if these test are known to never be wrong than there wont be a second look at set ups...there's always someone with enough influence to be able to manipulate the system

Lie Dectetors do exist. But can't be used to actually tell someone is lieing or if not. There are two big negative effects with it and these are in my opinion.

1) If you just get nervous or scared if someone ask you a question, then the answer you will answer will always be as a 'lie'. If we are going by lie dectotor that count out how many beats your heart does while telling something. Because if you're nervous or scared then your heartbeat will increase.

2) If you master staying calm or anything likely that, then you can pretty much lie how much you want and no one would be enabled to tell you that you are lieing or not.

They're not reliable enough to even consider their use or merits. In fact, no real method of obtaining the truth works reliably, other than just making the person want to tell the truth.

When I saw title of this thread, I remembered the movie ''Meet the Parents'' and Jack's lie detector. XD
Anyway, I don't like them, but they can be useful too. Everything has advantages and disadvantages.
But my parents are living lying detectors, so they don't need this. Zzz

My lie detector was pretty top.

It's hard to truly ever know the truth. If lie detectors help uncover it, I'm for it I guess. People, though, can be more useful. Picking away to uncover it without any chance if mechanical mishaps/cheating of the machine.

hes talking about them making better ones, not the ones we have now. one thats are specified for each individual person so its more accurate
