La Liga (Spanish teams) have accomplished more Europe wise (UEFA Europa/Champion League). There are many good clubs like A. Madrid, Valencia, and Villarreal. Those teams just aren't at the level of Barcelona and Madrid.
In EPL it's between always 3 teams at least (Man U, Chelsea, and either Arsenal/Man City can compete, but Arsenal is going to have a bad season this year. Liverpool aren't on top form, so will struggle, but will battle for 4th against Tottenham.
EPL has more competitive clubs, as La Liga and Serie A have only two.
