It seems that in Naruto's world mothers always -in some way- shift their kids into what they are.
Kushina showed Naruto love and stubborness.
Mikoto showed Sasuke Uchiha pride.
But what about the most important villain - Madara?
Here is my guess: maybe she was a bitter woman that even if she tried to show Madara and his brothers love and compassion, she showed them the life's harsh side, telling them that shinobi never know when they will die. Just like when Madara told Hashirama to not worry about his little brother's death.
