Naruto hasn't quite got that level yet. Apart from nerds, no one else really knows about Naruto. DBZ will always be the Gold Standard since it opened the door for other anime/manga to do well across the world.

That's not necessarily a good thing. I have a friend who is not an anime fan. He never heard of Naruto, but knew about DBZ. Now here's the thing, he doesn't like DBZ because from what he knows, it's a bunch of shouting and that's pretty much it. So being well known/=/fans. It can also act as something that gets people not wanting to get into anime in general.

i have friends in real life who don't know what anime means, what manga means.
they think there is no difference between cartoon and anime and classify anime as cartoons.

Clearly they have no knowledge about anime, and even they know about DBZ but not naruto or one piece.

In India, people who don't own a PC know what dragon ball z.
Naruto isn't popular in India , but everyone know about DBZ.
