If they were Genin when Naruto turned 15 in Shippuden, then they were aged 10 when Naruto was a Genin at age 12 (since there is an age gap). There is a reason for this: They insulted her for her appearance and Naruto played along acting like she was his girlfriend.

There's this, and there's the fact that Sakura's beating up people with her fists is a running gag on Naruto.
