Okay, so our training's going to be different from the normal trainings you see on the base. We're going to follow the method system.

Method System
In this system, each jutsu is grouped into the 'method' or category it falls in, irregardless of rank. There are several methods for Water Release, which I will post and explain in detail soon. After each method is covered, I'll ask you to list the jutsus of that method which would test your understanding. Once you do that, I will teach you the jutsus of that method and then move on to the next method.

Before we start with the actual methods, lets brush up your knowledge on basics. I want you to tell me what is chakra, ninjutsu and handseals, in your own words. You can refer the wikia, but don't copy paste from it or other training sessions of other RP'ers. Also, can you tell me what water in real life personifies for you? Like, how Fire signifies/personifies hope, as well as destruction, etc.

Sounds interesting :)

So to start, chakra is the fundamental life source of ninjas that is composed of both spiritual and physical energies. Ninjas utilize chakra in different ratios to perform special skills. Chakra is used for both Ninjutsu (all forms like Medical, Sealing, etc.) and Genjutsu. Chakra can also be used to enhance Taijutsu. Chakra flows through it's own circulatory system, similar to a person's blood network. Each person's chakra is different in color. There are also special kinds of chakra, like Bijuu chakra, or Sage chakra which relies on natural energy. There are also the 8 Gates located inside everyone that stores lots of chakra. Ninjutsu is the misguided teachings of the Sage of Six Paths (originally meant to be Ninshu) which is used to empower the user to perform techniques. Raw chakra is used in Ninjutsu, and can be molded using Shape and Nature Manipulation, increasing it's strength. Finally, handseals are used to help regulate flow of chakra during technique performance.

And in real life, I would say water personifies calmness, as well as adaptability, because water naturally is calm when undisturbed, and it's flowing nature gives it a sense that it can move easily through obstacles. To a lesser degree, there are times when water can represent power, when taking ideas like the ocean currents, whirlpools, etc. Though, I think this only proves how water can adapt easily from being calm to a powerful chaos. It can definitely be used in both offensive and defensive way, making it very versatile.

Good. Well said about the personification. My sensei made a paragraph about the symbolization of this element actually.

Water is a more or less passive element by nature. It flows freely and takes the shape of whatever it is contained in. I call it passive as it is a yielding element which goes and flows however the external forces and nature dictate it to. For example; still water will move and ripple at the slightest touch, a river flowing straight will move around a rock and take an alternate direction instead of just going through the rock. Wind can cause water to move in different directions. This is one of the reasons why water, a yielding element, is opposite to earth, an unyielding element. That rock in the bank of the river will not move for the water, it will stay firm. If the rock were to walk through the river straight, the water would go around the rock, not the other way around. This is a rudimentary understanding, however water itself can be very powerful and forceful. A large enough mass of water may disroot the rock if strong enough. Water may be condensed to a fine area and move at great speeds to cause a powerful impact. That is where variables come in, which is what any element manipulates, the variables of the properties that can enhance an element's potential. If you want to look at things in terms of balance, Taoism and philosophies behind water and it's general movement. Water is the Yin half, not forceful, yielding and water redirects energy instead of meeting it head on. The Chinese Internal styles of martial arts talk about redirecting your opponents force back onto them which is essentially a property of water (the redirection that is). Force is not met with force rather the force is allowed to continue until redirected suddenly, often times against even harder forces that are much stronger. An example would be if somebody were to punch you. They are traveling in one direction at a certain speed. You simply move out of the way while guiding the fist further in that direction, increasing the speed. Should there be a wall behind them, they make impact with that wall and most often hurt their hand.

Chakra: "Chakra" is basically life essence or life force which exists in human bodies and animals. Without it, a shinobi can die. It can be considered "blood" and soul for a ninja. It is the molding of physical energies and spiritual energies in the body. Physical energy is the energy given off by the body cells and can be increased with more stamina and practise. Spiritual energy is derived from the consciousness of the mind and can be increased through great concentration and meditation. It is the basis for all almost all the ninja skills like Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, except Taijutsu in some special cases. It flows through the chakra circulatory system, and in it, there are 361 points aka nodes in the body known as tenkutsu. The function of the tenketsu is to regulate and control the flow of chakra. If these weren't present, then chakra would flow through some specific organ, thus there wouldn't be a balance in the chakra flow. Every ninja in the narutoverse possesses a chakra pool. Shinobis with a very high chakra pool like Naruto can perform a lot of higher ranked techniques like Multiple Shadow Clone Technique, etc. without having the fear of getting their chakra depleted at once. Senju Clan members for eg, have very high chakra reserves and a high physical energy aka high "Yang" energy, thus their naturally strong bodies and on the other hand, the Uchiha clan members have a very high spiritual energy, i.e. high "Yin" energy, thus their proficiency in genjutsu and visual prowess. It is possible to have high chakra if you possess very strong willpower. If chakra runs out completely in a shinobi, then he dies as shown when Kakashi died due to his chakra completely running out against Deva Pein. It can be divided into several types like:

Elemental Chakra
Senjutsu chakra
Bijuu Chakra

Ninjutsu: Ninjutsu means "Ninja Arts" and is something that allows the shinobi to do something that a normal human can't do, like walking on water, manipulating elements, the usage of special as well as bladed weapons, stealth, transformation, etc. The effects of ninjutsu are real. Most of the time, it heavily relies on the usage of handseals as well as chakra. Regular ninjutsu doesn't incorporate the usage of elements for it, like stealth, a basic Rasengan, etc. Elemental Ninjutsu is an advanced form of ninjutsu, which incorporates the usage of basic 5 elements, as well as advanced combinations to create stronger jutsus which have the respective properties of the 5 elements. Elemental ninjutsu is stronger to regular ninjutsu, since regular ninjutsu only uses raw chakra, whereas, elemental ninjutsu uses both Shape Manipulation and Nature Transformation. The perfect Rp example would be that, a Wind natured or a Lightning natured Rasengan would have a greater destructive force than a standard Rasengan, obviously because the elemental Rasengan contains violently rotating chakra as well as the violently rotating chakra is given the property of the respective elements.

Handseals: Handseals are hand gestures, which primarily manipulate chakra and dictate the exact amount of chakra needed for the respective specific technique. Weaving of handseals makes chakra take different "patterns". Some techniques require a large number of handseals, which is related to the complexity of performing that technique and if not weaved properly, in order, or if the user loses focus in between, then the technique is either executed in a weaker state, or it is dispersed midway, depending on the specific technique. A good example is Water Dragon Bullet Technique. It was shown that the technique required a string of 44 handseals to perform, however the Second Hokage, Tobirama could perform it with a single handseal, due to his unparalled Water mastery. It is shown in the manga that with time, a shinobi after mastering the specific technique, requires one-literally no handseals to perform it, an example being Chidori, which required some handseals when Sasuke just learnt it. In our RP, the user can perform any 2 elemental releases of his choice, depending on the elements he has placed as specialties, with one-virtually no handseals/faster handseals. Usually, handseals are performed with both the hands, but Haku, Minato, etc have demonstrated the ability to perform it with only a single hand. The 12 basic handseals are Monkey, Ram, Dog, Horse, Dragon, Boar, Rat, Snake, Ox, Hare, Bird, Tiger.

Whoa o-o

I loved the Water Paragraph, starting with the fact that water is yielding whilst earth is unyielding, making them opposites. I also really enjoyed the references to Taoism. Regarding chakra, seems like I already understood most of what was listed, so I'm good there. Same with Handseals, with the exception of a few questions.

1) Do elements you have listed as a specialty allow you to perform them as one-handed handseals?
2) How fast does it mean to be able to perform handseals faster? (Is it like Kakashi's speed during his fight against Naruto and Sakura?)

1) If Water is your primary specialty, you can perform Water techs with a single handseal, and if it's your secondary specialty, you can perform it with faster handseals.
2) Roughly yes, that speed would be correct.

Can't say I do. I know that wind was talked about pretty thoroughly in the series, and a bit of Lightning, but not really sure about water

Well, I'd assume you make your chakra follow the general properties of water, so you'd probably focus your chakra to be very fluid and flowing.

If Asuma told Naruto to picture his chakra grinding against one another to get thinner and thinner like a blade sharpener, then the user may probably picture their chakra flowing out of a pitcher or something

Good. You got the basic concept of it.

Suiton chakra, also known as Water natured chakra, is free-flowing and fluid in nature. When Suiton chakra is molded, you almost feel as if water itself is flowing through your chakra pathway system. Now, I'll teach you how to mold Suiton chakra.

Grey text = RP
Normal text = OOC(Out of character)

*gives you a special chakra paper*

Sit on that pillar nearby, and meditate. Free your mind of useless thoughts. You should slowly feel your chakra flowing within your body, and your only focus should your chakra flow. Once you feel your chakra flowing through your body, picture an image of water and take control of your chakra. Now, shift your focus on the properties of water. Keeping the properties in mind, slowly make your chakra mimic the properties of water. If done right, Suiton chakra would be formed, after which you would channel this new chakra into your hands, and into the chakra paper. The paper should get wet, if you do the procedure correctly.

You must be registered for see images

How does this new chakra nature feel?

Following their sensei's instructions, Sting and Rogue each grabbed a paper and sat by the pillar to begin meditating. Following the procedure, Sting and Rogue emptied their minds of all outside thoughts. They focused solely on their chakra that resided within themselves, noticing the physical and spiritual energies. After, they both imagined a vast ocean. Taking in the image towards their head, they felt their chakra in their bodies and focused on making it as fluid as water. While holding the paper, they surged the chakra from their body towards the paper. Opening their eyes, Sting and Rogue both noticed the paper turn wet and damp.

A smile of joy appeared on each of their faces.
Haha! Did you see that? Not bad huh? Said Sting.

Well done, heh. Now, for the next part.

Now that you've learnt to knead Suiton chakra, next up are the concepts of streams and projectiles, which is a very important part and one of the reasons that we're training using the method system. Can you tell me what projectiles and streams are? Just a general answer.

Sure thing.

Streams would basically be techniques that are constantly moving. So, you have to be continuously kneading chakra and releasing at the same time. Only once you stop kneading chakra does the technique stop. Also, because you're constantly kneading chakra, it means that you won't be able to mould your chakra to perform another technique.

Projectiles are attacks that require energy only for the initial action. It only requires chakra to release the technique, and once you do, it's done. After it's in the air and on its own, it can't be manipulated again (unless specified by the technique) by the user. Despite not being able to control it afterwards, it allows you to quickly follow up with another attack right after.

Good. You know your basics. Still, I'll put up my own explanation:

Projectiles: Projectiles are objects which are propelled into the air. For eg: shurikens, kunais, etc. These are thrown towards the opponent. Now, projectiles move in a certain fixed direction, unless their direction is externally changed by blowing wind, water, etc. Once projectiles are released, one can't alter their trajectory and it is out of your control now. With projectiles the user gathers all their chakra into one central focus point and releases the chakra all in one burst or divided in several bursts of compact chakra with its own set of energy, meaning the chakra is concentrated at one single point and thus the area of damage is short compared to streams, however due to the concentration being large, one single point when hit by a projectile faces massive damage.

Based on what I wrote above, what do you think are the advantages/disadvantages of projectiles?

The most obvious disadvantage is that you aren't able to control the projectile's trajectory directly after it is launched, unless you use a second technique or something. The advantage is that you're not forced to keep focusing on it, and can do other stuff after it launches. It's also advantageous that it's more powerful due to be concentrated all at once. Also, a disadvantage would be that if the projectile misses, there's no chance for it to be taken into control again to hit the target, so it's a one-go thing.

That's about it I can think of

Well done.

Advantages Of Projectiles: Techniques in this category are quick releases, designed to attack in short to long range scenarios against big single targets, with normal movement speed. Once they leave your hand it frees you up to attack again with more projectiles or even other types of techniques. Techniques in this category allow for you to launch several shots in succession in most cases allowing you to barrage your opponents from several different angles possibly or use them as a distraction or ploy to force them in directions that would be beneficial to you. Large enough projectiles will make it difficult for your opponents to avoid, but not impossible. There can be issues with visibility, allowing you to block your opponent's vision while you plot a sneak attack. However visibility aspect is a double edged sword in most cases. You won't necessarily be able to see them unless you have sensory abilities. These techniques are better used in closer distances to disable both the ability to dodge and counter but also to make full use of the speed of these projectiles. The closer you are, the less time they have to hit the opponent.

Disadvantages Of Projectiles: Though quick in release, once projectiles are released you have no control over them. It's generally the same in every case with projectile based weaponry minus attachments like wire that allow you control. However in the case of chakra based projectiles like these, after exhaling exit from the point of release there is no real control over the projectiles. The direction you've launched is where it will go and it could be very easy to avoid them with basic techniques that could move you out of the line of fire, like Earth Release Technique or the popular hurricane fist into the air. There is the problem of the rapid fire projectiles. As said previously, as you're allowed to fire multiple shots from certain techniques, yet they don't all have the power of that particular rank, their collective power combined = the rank of the technique as a whole. What this means is, as you divide the projectiles into several shots, they considerably get weaker allowing for your opponent to exploit the weakness. Some techniques may converge at a single point (usually the target) so that they may not be able to avoid harm by just attacking individual shots, there is still that possibility. Those who try to cover a wider range with more projectiles will leave themselves at a disadvantage. The opponent can protect just their frontal or the area of where they're attacking by using weaker attacks protect against individually weaker fireballs or fire projectiles. Another big disadvantage is this method is that these techniques aren't very prone to combos with other techniques, especially those of other elements. The projectiles are generally so compressed and dense that they explode on contact, preventing them from melting or heating earth that could be used in a combo with them. The sheer concept of a projectile makes it less prone to be comboed with wind or lightning as the projectiles would require insane precision to be comboed with a wind or lightning technique. Projectiles aren't also very usable with water for the same reason as earth as the projectiles would simply "rupture" and not deliver its effect due to the small time in contact with the combo technique. The main disadvantages are that projectiles are fast yes, but less versatile in combat and for the most part, easy to defend.

Moving on; do the same for streams.

Wow O_O Alright then

Advantages Of Streams: You're in control of the stream, able to manipulate it while it is out. Unlike projectiles that have a one-hit, one-use purpose, streams can constantly hit and attack something. If there was a wall that was big and a projectile would only dent it, a stream can constantly move through it to eventually break through. That's all I can think of. You can stop them whenever too. I don't know if it can split or not.

Disadvantages Of Streams: You're constantly streaming your charka, so you can't mould it for other purposes. It effectively makes you stick to using it and not another technique. I'm trying to think, but that's all I can really think of right now. I mean, if it can't spllit, than it's a disadvantage in that it can't hit multiple targets. Yea, I don't know :/

Well done, once more.

Streams: A stream is a constant and well defined flow of an any material. For eg: a stream of water. Here, you gather chakra, and then simply release it in a steady flow outwards toward your target and you maintain that steady flow until the chakra you've built up for the technique is no longer there. This means that streams have their power spread out evenly throughout the technique as opposed to several individualized bursts of chakra that have their own capabilities, meaning you have to constantly focus on your chakra, however, you're free to alter the direction of your attack, since you still maintain the control over it until the amount of chakra that is built up gets exhausted.

Advantages to Method : With a constant stream, you have a set level of power coursing throughout your entire technique, as opposed to projectiles where you may end up releasing several projectiles with limited strength. You also have a larger range of water with these techniques for the most part. With projectiles just covering single points, to a certain distance, constant stream based water techniques provide you with a wider area of attack.

Disadvantages to Method : The biggest disadvantage these types of techniques seem to have is the weakness of being unable to perform another technique while the one they currently use is in effect. With projectiles, you channel all the chakra for the technique into that one (or several) shot(s) of fire and once it's released, you're freed up to preform even more techniques for attack or defense, etc, etc. However, with constant flames, you're constantly fueling the chakra and feeding the technique. Without Yin Yang release to possibly control more elements at once, the user must stop the technique they're doing to change natures or even techniques of the same nature. This gives your opponent various openings, attacking you with a technique that forces you to maintain that technique while they attack from different angels. If they have the free hands and you don't they can easily take advantage of that, leaving you helpless.

Any questions?
