This is probably just coincidence but the techniques that come from MS seem to follow a pattern with what eye they come from. Whenever the left eye is used the jutsu is offensive and when the right eye is used the jutsu is either defensive or a special technique.
The best example is Obito vs Kakashi. Kakashi had the left eye and he was able to snipe people with kamui which was more offensive. Obito had the right eye and his form of kamui was more defensive or special because he could kamui parts of his body and only the people he touched.
Next Sasuke has shown some examples of this. Whenever Sasuke just shoots amaterasu he uses his left eye for an offensive move.
And when he manipulates them either for defense or a special purpose he uses his right eye.
Could this be applied to the Rinnegan too? Since Obito only had the left eye he could only use the offensive abilities of the paths. I don't know the exact names but two obvious offensive ones are the animal path and the robot path while two defensive or special ones are the preta path and the reviving path. Then Obito stated to Kabuto that he could use the human path.
So the animal, human, and robot paths might be contained in the left eye while the deva, preta, and reviving paths are in the right eye. This could explain why Obito never used shinra tensei or preta during any of his fights. He just didn't have the correct eye to use those techniques and the animal summons or rockets wouldn't be much help.
This could also apply to limbo and susanoo. Limbo seems like a pretty special technique not exactly designed for offense and the only one to use it is Madara who has the right eye. And susanoo is said to come from having a left and a right so offense and defense is combined to make susanoo.
There are some exceptions though. We don't know enough about KA to say anything about Shisui's eyes and whenever Itachi used amaterasu he used his right eye. When amaterasu was first introduced it was pretty special so this might still work but hey it was just a thought.
