[Discussion] Least developed Strawhat?

In my opinion, it's Sanji. I think of all the Strawhats, Sanji is the only one who has moved backwards in terms of development. Sanji has always been a womanizing, lady-loving man-among-men, but Oda has made that almost his entire personality. Sanji used to be a foul-talking, no-shit-taking thug who beat up anyone who'd insult or waste food, but Oda has abandoned that side of him for the most part. He's still abrasive, but in my opinion, Oda has paid far too much attention to the lady-loving side of Sanji, and should pay closer attention to Sanji's attitude towards food, when was the last time Sanji stood up for food aside from a one-liner against Jabra at the end of their fight? In my opinion, the next person Sanji fights shouldn't be someone who harmed a lady, or insulted a lady, it should be someone who degraded food. Sanji needs this for his development and show there is more to him than ladies, Brook and Sanji together provides enough lady loving comedy for the series, it makes no sense for this to be such a defining trait for Sanji.

Sanji beat the crap out of a guy at the Baratie because they insulted food period, it was never about being his food. No one talking bad about Sanji's food is what I'm talking about, Sanji is always fighting for the ladies, someone who insulted or harmed a woman. Oda needs to have an enemy insult food again to get back in touch with such a cool side of Sanji's character.

Usopp did develop, the only time Usopp acts badass or independent is with enemies he knows he can beat. Pre-TS Usopp would have ran from Trebol and never came back, but he developed and confronted a foe clearly ahead of him anyways. That's development.

Brook was recently introduced, his time of development will come. I think it will be Brook becoming more serious, knowing when to stop joking so much.

Nami went from a selfish, manipulative ***** to fighting for her friends. Her development went from caring about herself and money to caring about all of her friends, her development follows a similar path to Zoro's.

And oh right I forgot about that, but still, that's some kid in a forgettable moment. Like I said, it needs to be from an enemy and focused on as much as Sanji not tolerating harm to women is.

He hasn't changed at all though... Can't help but think his age actually plays a part here.

He is actually very old, he was 88 when introduced and now he's 90 years old.

And what does that mean exactly? Well.. the original strawhats were all young people, they were all teenagers up until Robin whom was the oldest for a while.

So they had this whole thing of going through, figuring out who they are, what they want, discovering their own moral values and who they would like to be as people, typical growing up youth stuff.

Brook however.. he's old, he allready knows who he is! he's been who he is for fifty + years. There's no reason at all to dwell further on it at all, he is exsperienced enough to be relaxed in his own attitude and jokes around on purpose.

At most we have to assume that his fifty years floating around all alone in the floriang triangle left him just... a tiny bit crazy in the nudget.. or a lot.
But he allready knows that and is fine with it. He has no reason to change so well.. and I as a reader is fine with that, I like Brook, I like him a lot.
And I like having him around as a constant support to the more insecure crew members..


Usopp least developed? ... I have to highly disagree with that, he is the MOST developed!
That entire thing from him getting into a fight with Luffy in Water Seven until his big shout on Boing island was one big long character development in Usopp realising he is not just kept around because they pity him, but because there is a genuine need for him.
First when he shouts on Boing Island. "I NOW REALISE! LUFFY NEEDS ME TO! SO I NEED TO BECOME STRONG!" is the character development started in Water seven, or even earlier than that when Usopp asks Nami. "Am I a coward?" coming to an end, a long natural character development.

And we see the end result at Punk Hazard when Usopp stands up to those people in the control room, having his speech.
"You're calling my captain a coward to my face? If that was true this would have been easy, I could run like I want to, but because my captain is like he is, and believes in all of us, I need to do my best to life up to him and his exspectations!"

Something like that, but yeah..

The reason why Usopp was trying to flee as Dressrossa was because well.. total strangers wanted him to fight a fight he knew he could not win where he had no personal gain and none from his own crew had anything to gain from this at all.. Luffy didn't even know where the heck Usopp was and had no interest in this.

Is it really fair to say Brook? Imo everything we had to know about him except a few minor details that willbe important later were revealed in his intro arc. He was also the latest Strawhat so he's had the least screen time.

Maybe it's just me who thinks like that though. Anyway I'd say Usopp. Don't care what anybody says, I believe he's the only character Oda is really confused with what to do with. I get that sometimes it's for comic relief but for some of the most vital plot points he chickens out... he's the god of taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

You misunderstood. I'm not saying Sanji's lady-loving trait needed to go away or not grow, I'm saying the other side of him should have as well, the part that beat up who disrespected food
