Learning new Elements?

I know this may be a noob question but in all the time i've watched and read Naruto, i have wondered. Are ninja able to learn new elements or are they restricted to what they are born with?

Yes, they can learn more, but it would take a long, long time. The only reason Naruto learned so quickly is because of his shadow clone training, which allows him to learn skills exponentially faster than a normal person.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, so I assume the Rinnegan just makes it way easier to achieve such a feat.
