If you know Spanish, Italian is going to be your best bet because it's the closest language to the former. I know this because I speak Spanish fluidly since it's just as good as my English.
After that, learn French, although that's not really necessary - I really never use it, but I guess it's nice to learn if you're interested.
Last, but not least, German in my personal experience has been a very important language because a lot of people that I have met outside of America speak it.

The length of time and difficulty largely depends upon how much immersion you can get and its relations/deceptions regarding your own language.

Languages that are completely removed from your primary language can be difficult to learn - but will not offer many false-similarities to deceive you.

Languages that are in close proximity to your own can be very quick to pick up, but require more work to weed out the things that sound like they are related to your language - but aren't.

For example - I'm actually curious about the etymology of the serbian word "strane" - which Google translates literally to mean "sides."

However, within the context of a message I saw containing it, I related it to the word "strange." The effective translation remained very similar to what Google translate popped out "dropping complements all around" - but I almost wonder if my intuition was more correct in its cultural implication ("getting complements from strangers.")

My brain can't handle cyrillic, though.

That shit makes my head explode because it is roman/latin except when it isn't.

Hangul, I could handle. It had a defined pattern that was distant enough from the roman alphabet to not be a problem. I was actually starting to write down some English words as they would be depicted in Hangul (Korean).... even though my grasp of the Korean language was lacking. I could read it - but I had no clue what I was reading. Which is a funny situation to be in.

Kind of miss that place, actually.

It depends on a few things:

1) Yourself; everyone has different innate capabilities that caps what you can do.
2) If and how much time you spend in a country where said language is spoken.
3) How much you study per day.
4) If you've learnt a language in the past. This usually makes it easier as you have already developed study habits and understanding of grammar terms.

You won't become fluent in 3-5 months in any one language - medium-advanced speaker, yes. It took me a little under a year to become what is regarded as "fluent" in Japanese and that was with regular immersion. It certainly took me longer in other languages to gain fluency.

Oh well, there was an interpreter in my country who learnt Japanese in a week (she spoke 16 languages at a native level.) Others struggle with one language for years.

Some people are blessed with that ^

Its not really good to learn more than one language at the same time .
I learned korean then i tried learning japanese at the same time I didn't forget The basics ,but i mixed lots of words with korean .That could be just me though ..

Imo The best and fastest way to learn a language is by listening and talking to people with that language
To me the basics comes after getting familiar with the language .I like to start learning just like a child learning how to talk.

It depend on your ability to learn different languages, you may find one language easier and others bit difficult but it will be good, if you learn one language at a time .

as of me so far i know three languages Sinhalese ( it's my first language ) , English and Hindi ( I've bit of difficulty in speaking ) and i need to improve on last two but i get bored mid way and i started Korean but gonna take more time than i expected .
