I realize that each team has an official Jonin leader, but it seems like there was a genin on each team that was the most dominant out of their genin trio team. It was even stated that they pair the worst students with the best students on each team. For most of the manga, I feel like these people were the leaders of their respective three man team.

I think that is most of part 1, I felt that Sasuke acted as the lead genin of his 3-man team and always outshined Naruto. Gaara, Neji and even Rock Lee even confronted Sasuke first as if he was the lead genin of his team during the Chuunin Exams. After looking at Naruto's growth through most of part 2, I feel like Naruto is now the leader of Team 7. What do you guys think? Did you guys ever consider Sasuke as the lead genin of Team 7? Do you think that Naruto is currently the lead member of his team?

The teams were actually less based on talent as much as specialization.

Team Kakashi: Sharingan with Kurama

Team Kurenai: Tracking

Team Asuma: Ino-Shika-Cho Formation

Team Gai: Taijutsu

However yes for the most part each team had a member who acted as a leader.

During Part I

Sasuke: While Team 7 had no real leader....the rival Genin targeted Sasuke making him the Psuedo Leader

Neji: A genius who gained Tenten's admiration and constantly beat Lee combat wise

Kiba: Shino is more of a quiet logicsl thinker, Hinata is pacifistic in nature and avoids conflict. Kiba's natural Alpha Male instinct took over.

Shikamaru: Brain of the formation


For part II it stays pretty much the same except Team Kurenai basically never operates as a team so no real leader (though likely Kiba would have stayed as head honcho). Naruto did take over Team Kakashi

For the most part they also pretty much stand as the major character per team....only Hinata and Lee switching out their leaders for the main character per team.

In team 7 it has ben demonstrated that the guy that takes over when things are at the darkest point is Naruto who inspires other to give it their all.

Dumbass. I said that Sasuke acts as leader in part 1 until he leaves with Orochimaru. Now that Sasuke is back, and Naruto has grown into a leadership position and has become a powerful shinobi, Naruto acts or will act as the leader of Team 7. Learn to read.

Against Zebuza when Kakashi got captured Who again to charge and came up with the plan to save Kakashi, it was Naruto not Sasuke.
