Are there more versions of this technique?

It seems that each lava user we've seen uses the element a tad bit differently. Mei Terumi is the only one that actually spits lava while the rest have a variation of it (e.g. roshi's magma armor and dodai's rubber ball).

Mei's also resembles something more akin to liquid, does this mean she uses all three elements to form her lava release or is it just a different combination of fire and earth (perhaps more fire than earth so it's a more liquefied state)?

If you look at Roshi's Magma Technique, he actually spits balls of fire, which is more earth than fire but the fire aspect is actually very strong as well. It's a really difficult release to classify, even the earth release is hard to classify at times.

It's probably something to do with how much of each nature type is put into the attack,

for example;

40% fire 60% earth
would look different than
60% fire 40% earth

and have different characteristics, advantages, disadvantages and such.

So yes, there is probably more versions / jutsu's but we probably won't see them

In any case, they're all pretty awesome! Although I haven't seen much offensive power out of "rubber dude*. Though I guess he never has to go to the store to stock up on "supplies"

could be that they're just using different lava style techniques :s , like haku had different ice style techs

like roshi used a lava fire/earth ball jutsu

mei used a basic lava liquid tech

edit: yup it was just a diff lava style tech, roshi used "Lava Release: Scorching Stream Rock Technique."

I think it depends on the person's skill with the two techniques that makes up this kekkei genkai.

so it could be that Iwa's Lava Release is more like cement. Kumo's is more like vulcanized rubber. Kiri's is more like actual lava.

But it might also be because of the location.
Mei had to target Sasuke who was between the kages,
where Roshi wanted to hit a wide range.
So I think for making an uncontrollable mess of lava so simply generate
an earthstream/ball and then use your Katon on it.
And for a controllable pillar you will have to mix them first and spit them afterwards, thats what I imagine.

I think they all use it based on there 3 chakra natures if they have any mei has water so it comes out liquid rubber man has lighting so he spits out rubber and ookoni's granddaughter(cant remember her name) only has earth and fire so it comes out as lime stone
