The U.S. has done the shuttle program since 1962 and now we're launching our last shuttle Atlantis on July 8th (might be postponed). I'm sad :( I like watching the launches and now we can't send people to space. But I found this thing called face in space that NASA is doing. What you do is send them a picture of yourself and they send it to space, pretty self-explanatory. Here's the link if your a nerd like me and want to send your face to space on the last shuttle launch:

Voila! Hope you print out your awesome flight certificate lol

lol No it will launch on july 8th... One of my friends works for Rocketdyne and will be there

NASA still has the next gen stuff that didn't get scrapped, the only thing that is over is the solid fuel space shuttle program.

no no there are much bigger and better things to come!

The space shuttle program is so outdated, it like saying it's too bad giant brick cell phones went away. The new endeavors (pardon the pun) that will replace the shuttle are already in the process of implementation, and will far surpass the old poorly designed shuttle program. All while being so much more efficient that they plan on making space exploration much less costly then deep sea exploration.

Omg lol I used to be so obsessed with this stuff like a while ago I wanted to be an astronaut and all xd
I was going to to watch the launch at the actual place but then a lot of stuff came up so I can't so I'm mad. It's sad they're retiring the shuttles, but the new stuff will probably be better and they wouldn't do it without good reason. But also I think going to Mars is pretty stupid. What are humans going to find there that the mars rovers robots haven't found?

Well it makes sense to scrap the current solid fuel program. I'm not really fully briefed with the facts about this but by scraping one costly program, the focus can be shifted onto the next achievement which would be a manned mission to mars. So i guess in order to make the budget viable, reducing or cancelling the solid fuel rocket programs would allow the research into faster, more effective methods aswell as the focus on a long term self sustaining deployment method capable of making the projected two year journey to mars (one way).
^^ Hope that makes sense xd

I still think space exploration will always be a tad bit more expensive than deep sea, but yeah I see your point. I guess maybe I'll miss that brick cellphone because it's the only thing I know lol
