The Last of Us is a masterpiece.
I could type a 1000 word essay easily explaining why, but to keep it simple,
as you play as Joel, you realize how the world is, how it is filled with scum who would even go as far as whatever you saw during the game (example, the Ellie scenario where you had to survive from your own kind and not get raped/chopped into tiny pieces), the world is not worth giving up a person like Ellie, like Adam put it, its poetic. And ofcourse, not to mention that beginning how they gave such personality to Joel, and how Ellie's relationship develops w/ Joel, we ourselves can relate it with his daughter, if at all, Naughty Dog is a master of storytelling in this game, and it deserves every drop of respect it gets.
Dom, Riker, Adam, and the others made good notes about how it is a masterpiece.

If you really are going to stick to your original opinion, then its best that you play the game once again, but instead of trying to win, try playing it with greater adherence to character development and think about why every scene/cutscene have been put in the game, and why it has been placed in the timeline of your game play, you will realize otherwise :)

i think its a good set up for a second game

if Ellie did die and everything was saved, a second game would be a disaster or some spin off on characters people care little about. i think its better the game elaborates further on this drama and the characters theyve set up so well
definitely not finished but set up well. how will Ellie react? how will this effect their dynamics in scenarios and situations? how will others react to Joel if they found out about this, how will Joel react now? i feel like the writers are good enough to wrap up the story without ruining it

leaving a cliff hanger and jumping to a new set of characters and forgetting about what happened is lazy imo. most fans are scared that the preciousness of the first game will be lost if a second one is made but thats silly since its already there

you also know if they released a continuation game following this story you would play, so its a pointless discussion anyways
I realize everyone interprets the game in many ways, and thats the beauty of it, but the fact that it is a 'cliff hanger' is arguably false. I'm not telling you how to interpret something, but its of common understanding that it definitely isn't a cliff hanger.

You call it lazy, I call it smart.
Also, that "fear" isn't unfounded. Many stories get damaged or ruined by their sequels, it happens all the time. Personally, I can't fully enjoy a story if it's continuation(s)/sequel(s) mess(es) up. Happened with Naruto, Assassin's Creed, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter - just to name a few. When you get disappointed over and over again, why would it be wrong to prefer to avoid big risks?

And yes, I would still buy and play the game regardless, but that's not the point. It doesn't change the fact that I would have doubts and fear the whole work to be damaged overall. One masterpiece of a game does not guarantee a second one. Even the best writers can make bad decisions.
save me your insecurities please, youre basically complaining at my opinion because youre afraid, thats all

my point is regardless if the next game continues the story or if its completely new, it can still be bad and ruin the series or it could be great and push it further. it happens, people cant top their creative ideas after a while, thats why you "keep getting disappointed" and as long as you hold that you always will be. but even if the next game is trash and ruins the series reputation, the first one was still there, and will be there as a great game regardless

theres rarely any franchise thats a masterpiece each installment and is hard to pick which one was best, but the next body of work doesnt take away from the previous
