Just finished the game and its currently in my Top 5 PS4 Games but seriously the ending sucks.
Whats wrong with Joel? He of all people should know the importance of Ellie's sacrifice to save humanity. And you know Ellie can tell that Joel is lying at the end.
It was a great game but I feel empty after finishing it.

I personally loved that ending. And no Ellie can't tell, she believes Joel. The beauty of that ending is Joel sacrificed saving everyone for Ellie who's grown into someone he loves as a daughter and he just couldn't let that go, despite majority of the game the goal is to take her to the fireflies so she can be used as the cure. It's poetic

That's the beauty of it, people expected the cliche ending and Joel said fek it I am selfish,I wont let her died.

Masterpiece game, amazing ending.

That ending was perfect. They established throughout the game that Joel isn't a good person. He's just as selfish and ruthless as any hunter or cannibal or firefly you killed as him.

Joel knew from the recordings (if you bothered to find and listen to them) that the Fireflies DID find others like Ellie and killed them in the procedure only to fail to make a cure or vaccine.

What Joel wanted for Ellie and what the Fireflies wanted for Ellie aren't better or worse than the other. Joel saved Ellie out of selfishness, and the Fireflies were going to needlessly kill her out of desperation. It drove home and kept consistentthemes throughout the game, so it was a great ending for the game.

It was bitter sweet for me. F**ked over the world to save the life of a girl he loves like a daughter. A lot of fans are crying sequel because of the ending but I agree with others it was a poetic and non cliche ending which speaks volumes for it.

Definitely a masterpiece in my collection as well.

But Ellie knows he's lying. She wouldn't have confronted Joel about it at the end if she didn't. Let's say she wants to believe Joel but deep down we all know she doesn't. She's (and Joel) have been through too much together so she knows him better than anyone.

i think its a good set up for a second game

if Ellie did die and everything was saved, a second game would be a disaster or some spin off on characters people care little about. i think its better the game elaborates further on this drama and the characters theyve set up so well

I think a lot of people didn't find all the recordings . I know I didn't my first playthrough so it seemed like a surprise that Ellie was the only one immune. Turns out she wasn't the 1st. :(

Btw do you play multiplayer on TLOU? If you do add me, I'm pretty good :)

What? Joel did the right thing. Screw the fireflies, screw Ellie's death. It would've been a pointless death.
It wasn't clear if the scientists would be able to make a vaccine from one single sample. How would they reproduce it? And even if they could make many samples of this vaccine, what's there to "save" anyway? Almost all humans are already dead/infected and those who managed to survive are mostly bandits, cannibals or other monsters who don't deserve to be saved. And even if they deserved it, how would the fireflies bring it to the people? Why do you think they wouldn't keep it for themselves?

Joel did the right thing. Neither he nor Ellie do owe the world a damn thing. All that matters in a world like this are the people that you love. And that what needs to be protected. Throughout the game you learn that the destination doesn't matter. The journey is the reward. I would've done the same thing.

I don't think so. Ellie and Joel's story is told, I wouldn't want them to pick that up again.
The sequel (there will definitely be one) should be about new characters and a new story. We all learned to know and love Ellie and Joel, why wouldn't we be able to do the same again?

Let's also not forget the fact that not only did humanity survive(what's left) but Joel's brother had a sweet and peaceful setup that both Joel and Ellie were welcomed to. It's like the Walking Dead. The clickers and other abominations are just a backdrop; the way the world is now. Humanity will continue and so will Ellie and Joel :scorps:

Yup. The world of TLoU won't return to how it was before the outbreak, but it doesn't need to do either. Those who survive will adapt or die out. Natural selection and evolution, it has always been like this on Earth anyway.

The recordings you find throughout the game hint as much. Ellie wasn't the 1st to be immune to this nor will she be the last. As more babies are born into TLOU universe there will be more and more born immune to the virus. As you so eloquently put it: Natural Selection.

definitely not finished but set up well. how will Ellie react? how will this effect their dynamics in scenarios and situations? how will others react to Joel if they found out about this, how will Joel react now? i feel like the writers are good enough to wrap up the story without ruining it

leaving a cliff hanger and jumping to a new set of characters and forgetting about what happened is lazy imo. most fans are scared that the preciousness of the first game will be lost if a second one is made but thats silly since its already there

you also know if they released a continuation game following this story you would play, so its a pointless discussion anyways

I understand this aspect too. While it would be cool to see the world from a new group's perspective, I always thought a sequel would probably take place from an adult Ellie's perspective. She left the settlement after having a falling out with Joel over what happened( after all Joel did shoot the only mother Ellie's ever known in the head) Something probably happens to Joel or he goes out looking for her but she doesn't want to be found. Or something like that.

You do have a point, but don't you think it's also nice to have an "open end"? Something that every person can think and discuss about individually? I do not need every story to be set in stone to enjoy it.

You call it lazy, I call it smart.
Also, that "fear" isn't unfounded. Many stories get damaged or ruined by their sequels, it happens all the time. Personally, I can't fully enjoy a story if it's continuation(s)/sequel(s) mess(es) up. Happened with Naruto, Assassin's Creed, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter - just to name a few. When you get disappointed over and over again, why would it be wrong to prefer to avoid big risks?

And yes, I would still buy and play the game regardless, but that's not the point. It doesn't change the fact that I would have doubts and fear the whole work to be damaged overall. One masterpiece of a game does not guarantee a second one. Even the best writers can make bad decisions.
