So I have been worried for the past few days at the temperature my laptop is reaching. I had this laptop for like 8 years (no plans to replace it right away, gotta stick with it for a while) and it gets whatever work I want done.

The laptop model is Acer Aspire 4720z and the processor in it is Intel Pentium Dual Core T2330 @1.60 GHz. So the problem is, whenever I keep the laptop on for like 15-20 minutes without using it, it automatically gets shut down without even showing an error. The only time when it runs properly is when it has direct cooling so I downloaded a software and checked the temperatures.

At idle, the processor temperatures are 70-83 and on normal browsing, it's hitting almost 90. Heck, I think it can hit 100 while gaming. (Temp is Celsius of course). Is it way too abnormal? Should I get a computer techy guy to come and look at the laptop?

Thanks

Your battery maybe or possibly you keep blocking the fans so they don't get the chance to cool the laptop off. It's for the best to get a specialist to check it out.

okay i have some experience with this kind of problems so lets take it from step 1.

1. Does it shut down when in charging or when you are using it on battery? If it dies when its on battery its a sure sign that you need to change the battery.

2. If your fan pane is blocked the heat that is generated on your laptop often remains trapped and overheats your laptop that too sometimes leads to sudden shutdown however in that scenario you should get a message informing you about the shutdown once you restart it. If that is the case you need a servicing and cleaning of your laptop.

3. I hope you are not keeping it on your bed/sofa/cushion or anything else that blocks the heat from escaping. Try keeping it on a flat hard surface and then see if the problem persists.

Okay. Will try. I have to keep the laptop charging at all times since it's battery doesn't hold for long. Maybe just 1 hour?

well if you are able to get 1 hour it means your battery can go on for a bit more maybe 2-3 months but after that there would be no guarantees......just try the things i told ya earlier and tell me what you found....

Asked a computer techy guy to pick up the laptop. Looked into it and found out the fan wasn't even working lol. The entire heat sink is not working. And of course, dust collection.
