Also, I just realised, but with the emotional trigger necessary, how did Sasuke not awaken his Sharingan when Itachi Tsukuyomi'd him as a kid and showed him how he killed their parents?

Pretty sure only intense emotions bring out the sharingan. Never said what kind of emotion though. Bet you could have a sharingan awaken out of pure love, but it'd be a hell of a ride for that to happen.
