Now... Excluding the hero sticks with heroine one, let's look at the development.

It's quite clear that Naruto and Hinata were designed as complements to each other. They have always been meant to interact on a very personal and fundamental level. In this way - Sakura has always been on the sideline.

For crying out loud - even the RTN movie that NS fans like to claim is canon basically destroys their theory that Sakura understands Naruto as the entire point of the movie is to give her just a taste of what Naruto's life has been like; before which Sakura was failing to empathize with him in the slightest.

For all of her alleged character development with Naruto - it has impacted her character to the point that it feels like any of those moments should be considered filler because her character doesn't appreciably change spare for the time-skip.

She has no lasting impact - if she wasn't present in half the panels of the manga, you would forget she existed.

Hinata has three major appearances and two/three minor appearances in the series - and everyone remembers her. Because her character has impact.

Though perhaps you're right. Sakura's purpose, at this point, can only be seen as being pairing fodder.

Regardless - after catching up on your reading - you should now understand exactly why Volume 64's cover exists - and why it was Hinata beside Naruto in the first place.

sakura may have been "thinking" of sasuke, but her actions have been intended since part one to act in naruto's interest. she has romantic interest in naruto and her interest in sasuke is love, but not certain what type of love it is. sasuke turning around this last chp def in my book opened up the possibility to recovering sasusaku (in my opinon only, because if sasuke does stay good then it makes most sense given the possibly romantic/possibly not romantic naruhina moments that the pairings would result in ss and nh) but however there is alot of what i find narusaku moments that have happened and a couple of crucial ones that need to be addressed...like the fact naruto was disguised as sasuke when sakura's head got complimented....for some reason thats also the tiny little hint kishi would try to throw out to foreshadow a pairing (sakura fell in love with naruto, not sasuke in reality but she doesnt know that). this is all my opinon though...kishi is def trolling with all 3 possible pairings
