Kurama Size

Ok, so I was wondering, When Kurama Was controlled by Madara, it was much larger, way larger than the other Biju, Like dwarfed Konoha, then half of its chakra got sealed, but it obviously shrunk much more then half...
So why was it so big?Why did it shrink so much? Was it because of plot no jutsu because he would be too powerful in this kind of time?And if he really did gain the yin half back like people say, then why didn't he get big again?
