The above answers tell it, but to say it in one post, you get 0.20 kumi for every post, 1 kumi for every thread, and if you make avatar and sigs for people the kumi you can get can range from 50 - 5000.　Also, a way is to win a contest. You can get 3000 kumi for getting first place in a contest, 1500 for 2nd place, and I am not sure about this, 750 kumi for 3rd place.

PS- You should also know that kumi is almost worthless, all it earns you is some cool avatars and sigs, and maybe some respect. U_U

There are a few ways on this site to earn kumi. One can earn 1.00 kumi when he or she creates a thread and 0.20 kumi when he or she posts a reply to a thread. One other way to earn kumi is by winning a contest or tournament or completing a service, such as GFX, for another member. (See What is GFX) The last way is through a donation, in which one member transfers kumi to another member. The reasons for a donation can vary. The last way is to steal kumi through RPG. (See How do I steal Kumi?)

It's also one of the rewards for NB contests
