Name: Koumei Ren | Nickname: Cerise Heretic | Gender: Male | Age: 26 | Clan: N/A​
Koumei Ren is a relatively light-skinned male ninja of above-average height [6' 3"] with long, dark cerise-colored hair, all reaching down to his waist. His hair is regularly tied in a simple ponytail and frequently messy from a lack of attention. Those who happen to interact with Koumei on a regular basis refer to him as "Shaggy". As far as other physical features go, Koumei is oft characterized by vivid amber eyes and several freckles along the ridge of his nose. In his youth, he began to practice stitch art on his person, as a body modification aficionado. The majority of his stitches, crimson in color, are sewn into his right arm in a coiling pattern akin to a serpent. His constant training regiments have afforded him a well-built, slender physique, though many people perceive him as just lanky with the loose clothes he wears. ]. Moreover, he has cerise-colored kanji for both 'puppet' and 'monkey' tattooed, on his left and right shoulders, respectively. Koumei's typical clothing includes a basic white robe bearing a black taijitu symbol, as well as an array most akin to the big dipper constellation. Over his robe is a pink-colored overcoat with purple trimmings and his name in kanji on the back. Underneath his robe, he usually opts for a sleeveless black shirt with matching armbands, pants and sandals, complete with a waist-guard over a black sash. Tucked into the front of the sash is a single titanium wasp knife positioned for mobility. In addition, he oft wears matching blue-beaded bracelets on each wrist and a large heart-shaped earring in his left ear. Lastly, Koumei tends to wear a blue rope belt around his waist, tied in a bow, in which he carries a semi-large scroll. The scroll is known to be the summoning contract for monkeys. [CW]. The primary feature of the mask is one bilateral line down the middle, separating the mask into two portions. It is also able to open up at the mouth area; vertical lines appear, giving it the look of teeth.
Whenever Koumei is traveling, he makes sure to wear a simple, black tool pouch connected to the back of his rope belt. Inside the pouch, he keeps standard tools, as well as a small scroll containing his combat puppet collection.​
⫷ Personality ⫸
Currently, Koumei is predominantly characterized as being cynical, yet eccentric. In the public sphere of society, he is best defined as a realist whom scorns humanity's trends with an unwavering sense of pragmatism. Left to his own devices in private, his passions (animals and puppets) and hobbies (engineering) occupy the bulk of the hours he doesn't spend cleaning, eating, or sleeping. Born into a life of puppetry, Koumei seeks to elevate the fighting style centered around it to greater heights of acknowledgement. To this effect, he maintains an expansive workshop as a 'home' of sorts for the gargantuan collection of combat puppets he has amassed over the years, and strives to increase the collection until the day he dies. Moreover, his passion for collecting puppets is compounded by his hobby of perpetually installing and upgrading all of the mechanisms in each of them. The driving force behind his modifications is to one day see the individual worth of his creations equivalent to no less than a dozen ninja, therefore, he is relentless in his pursuit of improvement. In society, Koumei prefers to keep his distance and stay aloof, as gossip and trivial matters hold no interest in eyes. He is even apathetic to the political turmoil of his village, and instead opts to manipulate as many factions as possible.. so as to acquire new technologies and more opportunities to 'test' his creations. All things said, the only village-related phenomenon Koumei expresses any true interest in is economics, specifically inter-village trade. Now, on the field of combat, Koumei's behavior is essentially a 'one-eighty'. He doesn't believe in honor, and is so merciless that his foes describe him in a manner akin to a feral beast. Even if an ally or comrade should interfere with his personal agenda, he won't hesitate to cut them down without even the slightest bit of remorse. As little as Koumei should be trusted, he trusts his peers even less- only as far as he can throw their severed heads- and is selective of who he goes on missions or outings with. He enjoys raining/stormy weather, as it 1) gives him an excuse to be in his workshop when at home; 2) naturally removes most evidence of his involvement in any battles or experiments. In sum, Koumei is an ambitious individual, best ascribed to the 'mad scientist' line of behavior.. ​

Koumei Ren was born to a nice, respectable couple of well-to-do merchants in the capital of the Land of Wind. As early as eight years of age he began learning matters of national and international economics, with the intent of one day succeeding his father in his mercantile practice. However, one day whilst accompanying his parents and siblings on a caravan to the southwestern border, their group was ambushed by marauders seeking to profit off of their merchandise. Though the hired guards put up a valiant effort to stave off the assault, all were either grievously injured or slaughtered. Just as his father stood to defend his family, Koumei witnessed the usage of chakra for the first time when several of the marauders were electrocuted. Overwhelming the would-be thieves, a young boy- barely older than Koumei- emerged victorious as the remaining marauders fled. For Koumei, the incident hadn't been particularly hellish, but he understood that there were things in the world he'd never imagined existed and now, desperately yearned for chakra. Immediately upon returning home, he demanded that his parents allow him to enroll in Sunagakure's academy, so that he may learn the skills of ninja. He lied, and insisted that learning how to utilize chakra would reduce financial inroads associated with hiring guards and thefts. Once his parents consented, he smirked maniacally and left without hesitation.
Years after graduating from the academy and putting his skills to use for his parents' business endeavors, Koumei returned to Sunagakure and purchased a house in the southern district. Moreover, he sought to amend his career to that of 'ninja'. Since his return, Koumei has climbed the Sunagakure military hierarchy and made a name for himself, not only as a remarkably talented lightning user and puppeteer, but also as a maniacal individual utterly enthralled by his pastimes. Since the other great nations have begun to acquire new territories in distant regions, Koumei hopes to serve as part of the vanguard in Sunagakure's own attempts in the near future. For the time being, he busies himself with standard missions and, producing prosthetic limbs for military personnel, civilians, and even various animals. Recently, he has also been tasked with assassinating several key figures in the Land of Wind, for reasons including: corruption and bribery, homicide, and treason. Only a few key higher-ups are aware of his clandestine activities, but rumors have begun spreading as info- regarding the deaths- was leaked to the public.

Lightning Affinity: Not long after delving into the field of elemental ninjutsu, Koumei was handed a small piece of paper, which had been made from a unique tree grown and fed with chakra. Upon streaming just a fraction of his chakra into the paper, he observed that it spontaneously wrinkled. Years later, and with much training behind him, Koumei found that he was skilled enough to perform most raiton techniques with nothing more than one hand-seal.​

Puppet Specialist: Koumei is a ninja who has learned the unusual and underrated branch of ninjutsu known as the puppet arts. He is easily able to create multiple chakra threads via the Puppetry Technique and frequently uses highly advanced combat puppets to fight. Tailored to his peculiar fighting style, Koumei always keeps a small scroll on his person, within which he houses all of his puppets. Any of his future puppets will also be stored in the scroll.​
Sensor Type: Koumei is a ninja capable of detecting the presence of other people by directly sensing their chakra. A skilled sensor, he can easily detect targets from a great distance, as well as differentiate nearly all ninja by their chakra signature(s) alone. The height of Koumei's prowess is evident by his capacity to identify one's clan lineage based solely on their chakra, granted that he has directly observed multiple clan members (at least 6 individuals).​
Monkey Summoner: Koumei, during his time abroad, was granted the privilege of becoming one of just a select few individuals who are tied to the Monkey Contract. He has learned to summon a plethora of powerful monkey allies and has bonded with them all to the extent that they can cooperate with him in near-perfect tandem when fighting, side by side. His usage of them is such that he earned the special title of 'shishou' and has taken on multiple pupils.​
