I think he did something to anger the spirits in northern water tribe and south. Maybe the spirits and him made a deal and he offered human sacrifices. The people traveling on the boats would be the sacrifices. I think its funny how he is the only one who can control the spirits. Yet he doesn't have any ties to the spirit world.

I don't know why he wants korra but it's not for a good reason.

Yeh. Anyone who can't smell evil on this guy is missing a link or two. I hope that all the foreshadowing of evil deeds ends up being a troll. I don't like that they've already given us reason to question his motives in only 45 minutes of book 2. It took nearly all of book 1 to build up to the revelation that Tarlock was scummy. They didn't just come out episode one like "Watch out for this guy."

I'm not exactly sure it goes that deep. unalaq has good intentions for he was the one that saved the northern tribe. All I think his troops are going to do is destroy the things that are unnecessary. He's good but how he goes about it is bad.
