Just rewatched that fight, damn it was really good and usually I dislike flashbacks but these ones were amazing and when her bloody sheet of paper went and covered her tile had me crying. What an amazing female character, I hate that she was killed off so quickly.

The fight was just to reference to the skyfather izanagi legend.
izanagi put his spear staff in the ocean and created the islands of japan. Basically konan was the ocean that was poked with izanagi (tobi). Something close to that.
