sand is made from rock erosion too but it takes much more to mkae it than just simple eroding it ni 5 mins lol. besides to prove my point that gaara doesn't have earth element we can put up fact that he uses sand prepared before or that from the ground by manipulating it with wind element. he does not create it. he can though store it in great amounts... he can use any sand but the one fused with chakra acts on it;s own and is a lot more effective. just like Konan can probably manipulate any paper with wind but the specially prepared paper can work as a shield and a weapon. (sort of like iron sand).

she probably doesnt create it because if she could then she would never run out of it, just like hashirama cant run out of wood. when she ran out of paper she didnt seem to have ran out of chakra, so dont argue that that was the reason

From what I can understand Konan's jutsu is a Kekkei Genkai. A Kekkei Genkei doesn't really hve to be a mixture of elements just like the Sharingan or the Kaguya clan's Kekkei Genkai. It's also shown that Konan can turn her self into a lot of seperate pieces of paper, this also supports the theory that it's a Kekkei Genkai

Konan as we all know is the childhood companion of nagato, and was very good at origami for reasons that we do not know, maybe its not important but whatever.

How can konan develop a jutsu that manipulates paper? when paper is not an element in the slightest. yes there are some people who think it comes from wood element, it could be true it might not be.

Maybe because wood is a combination of earth and water that konan simply has to use more earth than water when combining her elemental recompositions.

If konan can manipulate paper just coz she enjoyed making origami does that mean a ninja can make a jutsu based on their enjoyment of stamp collecting?

My personal conclusion is that kishi just wanted to make a unique character but did not actually think of a feasable and simple way of making it easy to understand.

besides the elements there is always the yin and yang chakra manipulation
(think of shikamaru i mean he controls shadows its no kekkei genkai nor an element, even the kagebunshin fall under that category i think)
people have all kinds of jutsus that are not element manipulations .....
so why is konans ability so strange??

Konan was an awesome character to come out. Me personally I think its a KG. Take Kimimaru, what elements did he use to pull / make bones come out of him?

Side note to Garra's elements. He does use wind, also the Shikaku does when he fires those wind balls full of chakra. But I think he uses earth aswell... Not fully sure but I think it was shortly before he died (think it was after Argh! not sure haha) and he used sand burial prison or something :| I thought this was something to do with have an Earth element is it is in the ground.
