Uh oh, when writers are stressed or grieving over a real death in their lives in my experience they usually take it out on the story.
JK Rowling was going to kill off Ron Weasley in the 4th book and she barely stopped herself, fun fact. I think it could be interesting, let's see some of that emotion Kishi- fuel it.

Oh I heard the story different then- either way, I wonder if Kishi will consciously let it affect his writing or maybe that's what this break is partially for.

I highly doubt that his father's death will let him affect his writting. Obviously it might be more emotional than it was first planned but this manga runs over a decade, it just wouldn be bad writting if he plans to change something so important, so fast and without having done his proper plans. Plus, his editor wouldn't allow him to do such a thing if Kishi starts to take such huge gambles without being sure he can pull it off.
