He defintely have problems in female characters department.
It is not like he does not know anything about women; people (and also Kishi) are tend to generalize; if everyone viewed as humans before their genders; then it would not be so much of a problem.
So if he is bad at developing females; he is bad at developing characters...And he is not that good in overall character development department.
He might have sexism though...I don't know about that.

I think he treats women a lot better than the vast majority of shonen writers. Dragon Ball, Fist of The North Star and Saint Seiya all had a very limited conception of women and of their role and sometime looked like a 12 year old virgin was writing the dialogues. One Piece and Bleach still fall massively behind Naruto in terms of fair depiction of female characters. In comparison Kishimoto has at least a more modern outlook.

But first three you mentioned are so much older mangas -from eighties and nineties-.

We are in two thousand tens now; things should be much more different; compared to other big mangs like Bleach and One Piece; Naruto pales in comparasion in terms of female character department. And it should be compared to them; not older mangas.

Older mangas still live on and they're never criticized for this aspect. I'm not saying these weren't good products or shouldn't be considered today as such but seriously, I don't see why Dragon Ball should be auto-immune to many of the severe criticism Naruto has to take. Not only about women but also about many other aspects, such as the power creep.

That said: IF YOU SAY SO! I have an hard time finding Orihime better than Hinata, or Rukia better than Sakura, and so on. Bleach in general has often something itchy in its character developement. It depicts many memorable characters but they still feel somehow flat.

On the other hand, Nami and Nico Robin are WAY better developed than Sakura and Hinata and the likes, but they are constantly depicted in such an over-sexualized way that it pratically ruined my pleasure of reading about them. People keep telling me the same thing happens with Fairy Tail a lot: the characters are interesting but they always end naked or stripped for plain old fanservice.

Naruto isn't as prone to fanservice as One Piece and the female characters, while not the greatest in narration by any degree, are pretty relatable. Tsunade is especially interesting, I admit the other ones are quite less so.

Personally, it really isn't hard to make a good strong female character imo. How hard is it to dream up your dream girl and throw her in there with a few good powers? Are you afraid she is going to surpass the main character? Is it that she isn't like the 'typical female' you are accustomed to? I think Kishi needs to his head out of the 1960's portrayal of women and think of the 21st century. Imo, his excuse of making terrible female characters is irrelevant due to the fact that he has created Konan, Mei Terumi, Kushina and Tsunade. All perfectly strong females capable of handling their own. He made them all good, so why does he have a problem with the others ESPECIALLY his main heroine? I find it hard to believe that he says he has this problem with women when he is also married (unless his wife is the traditional 'typical Japanese woman'). I think in the back of his mind he is purposely pulling them down to make sure it stays a shonen manga, that being aimed at young boys. Though personally, if I were a boy, I would love to see some strong decent looking girl characters in there that are attractive. Wouldn't any guy? So I guess this is the problem I have with his statement regarding the female gender. It's not like ALL of his girl characters suck, so I think he is making an 'excuse' if you will in some ways to possibly hide the fact that he can be a little sexist due to the fact he grew up in those times. Most manga-ka are, but I think he needs to move on and get with the modern age personally. Probably wouldn't have so much hate mail on Sakura if he just made her like "Konan" or "Mei"

how he decides to work with or write his manga is completely out of our hands.

If you don't like it you don't have to read it.
Also keep in mind that two the Kage's are women and the kage is a lead role in a village.

DB an others can take critisim; but Naruto being better than the in such terms like female characters is something it is suppose to be since equalism should not jump back several years in such publications.

Yeah atleast Naruto is not a fanservice consists of cartoon boobs; but still there are so much difference between men and women in terms of development; Kishi said "yeah i am not that good with making strong female character"; but this does not seem like an excuese to me; it seemed like he is not that pushing them forward more while he can.

Let me come to his defense. As a man it is harder to write female characters, especially in a story so driven by action, but that is why you do research. Better yet you pick a woman you know and then write her into your story.

You idiot its common in japanese manga to have women like that. thats why people like you always complain too custom to having mangas like dc comics.

that's just wrong.kishimoto have said he wanted to make Main female character unique not common and i thought japenese people are very polite and if that's what you think i don't care a bit.
