Naruto protected the shinobi alliance by controlling those 9-Tails chakra cloaks simultaneously, He distributed to shinobi alliance.
Kurama already warned Naruto that controlling Kurama's chakra cloaks distributed to shinobi allinace simultaneously will wear out Naruto at once. Thats why Naruto lost BM and the chakra cloaks distributed by Naruto to shinobi alliance vanished after Juubi's island storm attack.

Large scale attacks have been done before in the series. Look back at when Madara used his Meteor technique.
As for the 'surviving together' part, that's been done a dozen times throughout the final battle. Nothing new there, really.
