PROS
His initial description via Tobi introduced the concept of a rejected clan leader and was pretty interesting. It brought up much of the history surrounding the shinobi world. We were basically told about the Senju/Uchiha/village/pride/war/shinobi problems. That's one of the most important parts of this series, in order to understand what shinobi are really all about. He also points out the flaws within the shinobi system (and some flaws with his own clan as well) that we as readers were not aware of before.

His first physical appearance as an Edo was mainly fan service, but nonetheless it was enjoyable. He wrecked the shinobi alliance in a brutal way, but also in style. He had lines that stuck "Man dreams of peace and yet kills for it, only such a contradiction could exist among humans". His humour was hilarious: To Naruto- "If you make more clones, you'll only multiply your incompetence.", To Naruto- "Umm. I don't think the Gokage are okay." His rude and arrogant way of speaking was definitely obnoxious too, but it was also funny in its own special way as well.

His end was more realistic than any redemption antagonists against Naruto received. He died with his ideals in tact, saying "maybe" Hashirama's way was better. A person who goes that far doesn't give up on their beliefs. He's the only legitimate bad guy/ person who went against Naruto to never get tnj'd. Madara is the most consistent real villain. Also, his final talk was wonderful. Just between him and Hashirama- the only one he was close to on that battlefield. No other character was shoehorned into their conversation and farewells.

CONS

Some things were pulled out of the author's sleeve when it came to techniques used w/o eyes. During his Juubi Jin phase, he was a huge villain sue and much logic was lost. Some of his IT plan seemed ridiculous and the way he said that he lost all despair when it came to the tablet but was well aware that he could stay in the village and try Hashirama's way... that was bad... especially how he believed in a tablet wholeheartedly w/o trying anything else to fix his situation on his own.

With all that being said, from a writing standpoint, the cons or "trolls" you listed weren't really trolls or bad.

a) He did win a fight against Hashirama. That's how he stole his Senju chakra and attained SM, proceeded to the Juubi Jin phase, etc.

b) Look back at the one Karin tanked. Zetsu's was a much smaller, mediocre version of Hashirama's. Not comparable or embarrassing for Madz.

c) This is up to reader interpretation, but I do recall most of the fandom enjoying it more when Madara messed around with the beasts. Capturing them all at once is boring and doesn't give a threat- it's too easy. No suspense is there nor is there a fight scene. Madara taking longer than Sasuke is actually a pro here.

And as for the BZ bit, that was pretty nice too. Obviously not for Madz, but for his characterization. Madara was literally "stabbed in the back" (betrayed both metaphorically and physically) by BZ just after saying he had been the one pulling the strings and he was the one in control, the best, and all who follow him are him. BZ is darkness personified that takes over, one who Madara mistakenly thought was for him. This just reinforces the theme once again that "Arrogance is one's major downfall". Madara was arrogant during his life and failed, had he entertained other options that he knew were available to him and been more open-minded, he may have lived a happier life.

tl;dr- Nah, he's fine.

1) Yeah Kishi wrote Hashirama superior to Madara, quite often at that.
2) Spiral Yamato's Buddha was so many tiers weaker than Hashiramas's which dwarf'd a bijuu clad in PS.
3) Yeah he should have. Kishi only wrote Kaguya in to tie up the plot slightly. Been better for her to revive and been the villain in the last instead, at least then RSM should've been used.
