First they needed the mask to release the four hokages from their seals, then they had to find a place to hide while summoning them. It was the perfect place to summon them actually.

Yeah sort of retarded by the fact that Orochimaru knew which mask... Why didn't he go fetch the mask after his victory over Hiruzen, smh.

Long time back I had said that scroll is related to death demon seal but I was not sure because of this...

The reason He Didnt go get the mask could have been as simple as because the Area was soo close to the leaf that if he aproached there would be no telling who will Come to Stop Him.. Keep in Mind his arms itself wasnt workin at the time. Also IF ANYONE OR THING EVER WERE TO TAKE ANYTHING IMPORTANT FROM YOU IM SURE REMEMBERING THEIR FACE WILL BE NO PROBLEM becasue you Correlate the face to be Important Because it was the one that caused you to be the way you are. Thats how he recognized the face.

Orochimaru knows what the Death God looks like, because the Death God appears to the user and the victim. Orochimaru survived the Death God so he might be the only person on the planet who knows which mask looks like the Death God.

Maybe he didn't fetch it because once he discovered how to get his arms back he got busy. He was sick. The masks are in a temple that might be too close to the village and he couldn't just send a spy to go get the mask because he's the only one who would know which mask to pick. The only reason he's able to do it now is because all the powerful fighters are away.

Also, what the guy above me said, it took too long for me to type this and he beat me.

If you check out the photos of the mask they dont match with death reaper face...So No

It was required, the mask is related to the tablet, they had to be there to summon the death god with the mask they couldn't just do it anywhere. Plus Sasuke can read the new parts of the tablet with his EMS now.

I'm pretty sure thi was explicitly said in the chapter guys..
