I have been trying to find Shirato's work. Found one of his mangas. It's a short one and rather dark ninja world. Story of two missing nins you can say. Let me know if interested.

lol But yea I rechecked the summary and no, not Akemi but her brother had cut her hand off after Hatorubi had cut Jutaro's ( which would be father of Akemi's child eventually. Sorry for the mistake.

Jutaro reminds me of Sasuke though. He uses sword; 'is one handed nin and always trying to take revenge and failing.. ( someone else killed the first guy he was trying to kill when he tries to avenge Akemi he again goes after the wrong person..

All I can say is that they are similar, and that was NOT done on purpose.

the only real similarity is missing an arm, using swords and the black coat. Their shirts and every thing else is different.
