Both these guys in those current panels could have easily solo'd the five Kage by themselves. Once they return to the village they are just going to back to being high jonnin level ninja to most people but in my eyes they will always be above the five Kage. Not only because they are better characters in my eyes but because they have way more heart than the five Kage. When the five Kage saw Madara's perfect Susanoo they where on the verge of giving up. Kakashi and Guy stood in front of Juubi Jin Madara and didn't back down. When the pressure was on these guys kept fighting. Kakashi who after having his sharingan ripped out and was going up against Kaguya the strongest in the series, said this "we are all prepared to die." He saved himself and two comrades when Kaguya teleported him to another dimension by simply tying a kunai to a scroll. The moments where they displayed top five level power were well deserved. These are easily top 5 guys I don't care what anyone says.

kakashi and Gai have always been two of my favorite characters.

There's something about the non protagonist/antagonist that makes them so much more badass.
