I know you're messing around but SasuNaru did get more development as a romantic pairing than NaruHina/SasuSaku combined. They shared their first kiss, never stopped thinking about each other, their "friendship" survived a really rocky long-distance relationship and by the end they were able to understand one another by reading each other's hearts. I think Kishi is just a traditionalist and he didn't want to go down the taboo route of making his two main characters gay. He remedied this by alluding to Salad's attraction to Burrito, which is basically what Sasuke and Naruto would have been if one them was born a different gender.
