Kishimoto's selling point is Sasuke and Naruto. Sasuke is the anti-hero and Naruto is the shonen Hero.

Sasuke does things of his own volition, and His views differs from Naruto even if they have the same goal.

This creates tension between the two mains.

Naruto and Sasuke aren't on the same team but they both go through revelations and character developing situations that parallel each other. All while at the same time changing the two characters enough to be a gray topic of justifications, right and wrong, enduring, and striving to change. Whether it's themselves, a system, or the world.

For example: Sasuke and Naruto finding out the truth about Itachi.

Naruto finding out Itachi finally brought emphasis of what Nagato and Jiraiya said. It focused on Naruto's revelation of the Ninja system, curse of hatred, Sasuke's pain, and Sasuke's views along with his own. Naruto had since vowed to Nagato that he will find a way to change things.

It's why he would try to end the source by fighting Sasuke and dying with him (only if he attacked Konoha). As a way to end strife, because known to Naruto, Sasuke had something different about him Indra during that time.

Sasuke finding out about Itachi brought the revelation of his life, Konoha, and the ninja system in general. It caused him to seek vengance, while later opting to use his power alone, to change to ninja system and shape the world.

Both characters want to change and shape the world for the good while not doing what Madara and Obito did.

That's why the moment they're together, tension rises. Because its complicated on how they're going to go about doing it.

Sasuke would rather kill his adversaries no matter who they are. Naruto would rather defeat them and use "TNJ".

The Juubi is being burned(And indirectly, the Bijuu's as well). Naruto objects

Well if we look at the amount of threads on NB that are about sasuke, by fans or haters, it is clear to anyone that sasuke is the hottest topic here and probably the most talked about character overall by naruto fans. His character creates the most amount of buzz around the naruto community.

Sasuke is indeed interesting. I can't imagine the manga now without his character as he has contributed so much to the plot. The same applies to Naruto, obviously. I probably would have never read it if Kishi didn't introduce this rivalry between Sasuke and Naruto.
