The characters come back from the most ridiculous things in that series.

Even the bad guys don't die in One Piece.

Series like these is why Attack On Titan, Akame Ga Kill, Cage Of Eden, Deadman Wonderland and Gantz are so suspenseful. They aren't afraid to kill off people

At the time of his death, no. Being Hokage wasn't a big deal. Perhaps it wasn't so much that he was Hokage that made the significance of his death so little, but rather his age. He was an old man FAR beyond his prime. The only skill he showed off was duplicating shuriken and summoning a monkey. His death was about as guaranteed as knowing your grandparents are going too go soon.

As far as we knew at that point, the 3rd was the only one standing in Orochimaru's way. So you can't say his death didn't have an impact on the series or wasn't major. He is the main reason Sasuke's body wasn't taken and the leaf didn't fall.

I honestly couldn't think of 10 more relevant characters at the time. He was the only one that could stand up to the main villain at the time (Orochimaru), was probably the strongest person in Konoha and in the series at that point, and held the Hoakge position which was/is the main character's goal.

I mean what, are you guys saying that Might Guy's death would've been more important? :erm:

Actually there are the comics DC and Marvel, where everyone always comes back, there are only a handful of characters in those franchises that actually stay dead.

You say named character deaths are rare in Shoune yet I can name several mangas that I know of which aren't afraid of killing people off.Bleach and Attack on Titan.

I believe this is the case. Gai was about to die, Naruto may have just prolonged his life a little rather than save him completely.

Gai will die anyway. Naruto just spiked a bit of the life fore/chakra in Gai - but just barerly then pulled his arm off either accepting he can not save Gai or it is impossible to Save Gai. The only thing Naruto did is prolonging Gai's life so we will get last words of Gai to Lee and Friends just like Asuma....

Honestly, I'm okay with this. Gai is literally my favorite character since the beginning of the series. Along with Sasori, Pein, Hashirama, and Neji.

I'd actually like to see more of him and get stronger in his base form. Along with Kakashi. Kakashi died once too, right? So I guess the rivals revivals are 1-1, lol.

But seriously, I was on the fench on whether it would be good if he lived or died. Dying while injuring Madara, the strongest character the manga has ever seen, is probably the most noble way to go. Now however Gai dies in the future, it probably wouldn't have touched his death against Madara.

Had gain lots of respect for gai after recent chapters but if he survives it will b bullshit. It even more bullshit then the time happy from fairy tail survived the bomb explotion. He should die as he aldready had his moment and the best moment of this war so far.
