Manga fact that many people thought SO6P was a myth. So as far as Dan knows, Hashirama's the only one who can take Madara.
OT: Also the part where Edo Madara says that the Five Kage's combined efforts are nothing compared to Hashirama. Twice. That's too much hype for it not to be backed up by feats later.

It didn't seem to enhance any abilities thate the gates couldn't and Guy didn't do anything. Besides Kabuto made Madara stronger so I'd say it's fair.
