So a few months back I made a thread about all the material that Kishi pulled inspiration from and or riffed on when crafting the NV.
However, I just realized Kishi never touched the Chinese Zodiac. He didn't create a cast of characters or try to establish and order that utilized/represented the 12/13 animals that make up Zodiac.
This image from Digimon Tamers illustrates the 12 animals who make the Zodiac, fairly well. In Tamers the Zodiac animals were Devas. Devas in Hinduism and Buddhism are celestial gods. Gods who fought alongside Indra (who was also a Deva) against the Asura (demons).

Snake
Horse
Ram
Monkey
Rooster
Dog
Boar
Rat
Ox
The 13th animal tied to the Zodiac but not given a month is the cat. Who was tricked by the rat and missed the ceremony to become like the other 12.
In Digimon Beezlemon was the Cat.
With the Zodiac being such a prevalent thing in Eastern folklore and numerous characters who already have animal connections that correspond with the Zodiac animals. It's odd Kishi didn't take advantage of this angle.
Looking at the 12 animals and filling in certain characters with specific animal motifs you get.
Tiger
Rabbit
Dragon - Kabuto
Snake - Orochimaru
Horse
Ram
Monkey - Hiruzen/Sarutobi clan
Rooster
Dog - Kiba
Boar
Rat
Ox
Cat - Some Uchiha clan member, since they already have dealings with cats.
The others could be filled in by someone else, but the idea is there.
