Kisame is a fishman from One Piece verse and he kicked Big mam's butt and didn't give her the candy she wanted adn thus he fled and came to Naruto verse. I had a theory about that but the thread was shut down

The lines on his face? How he seems to solo everything? His fire techniques? Reason he had a disease is because Pheonix Sage Mode made him immortal from all damage and battle, but his body was rapidly aging on the inside. Logic? Maybe drugs.

I wish he were a sage but it just ain't so. He has no nature chi control which is why he intentionally steered clear of J-man. He even commented to itachi about avoiding such a match up. Although it falls short of fully explaining why, using knowledge learned by the reader later if the encounter is reread it inferred he knew absorbing sage energy would end up making him stoned and why he would run away rather than mess with a sage.

I think he got gene spliced by some great experimenter of forbidden jitsus, his village's version of Ochimaru.
