In the image above, you can see Samehada healing Kisame from Killer Bee's V2 Lariat, which deals huge damage. Kisame's entire chest cavity was blown out.

To give you an idea of how powerful this attack is, base Bee's lariat overpowered V2 Ay's Lariat:

So Bee's V2 Lariat, which is significantly stronger than his base one, deals incredible damage. With Byakogou, a regeneration jutsu, there is a limit of the number of times a cell can go through mitosis (otherwise known as the Hayflick limit.)

This is the reason why Tsunade transformed into an old lady after using it in the Sannin Showdown; this is the reason why Tsunade transformed into an old lady after using her yin seal to heal the village (through Katsuyu). This is the reason why Tsunade's byakogou ran out towards the end of her battle with Madara. The Byakogou jutsu literally shortens her lifespan, as stated by Shizune. Kisame was never said to have such a limit, and even went on to say "I never tire...and I never fall". Samehada delivered Kisame chakra, which in turn healed his wound.

Had Sakura or Tsunade experienced an injury of that caliber, they would have had to regenerate tons of cells from the huge amount of damage inflicted: billions and billions of cells. If Sakura or Tsunade healed managed to heal from a wound like that, it would have put a tremendous strain on their body, chakra reserves, and shortened their lifespan. Samehada heals him and Kisame simply shrugs off the injury, then immediately afterwards spits out a huge dome of water, proving his chakra reserves were not affected at all.

This isn't the only time Samehada has healed Kisame. Look at how weakened Kisame is right here. Aoba even acknowledges this and says "he seems pretty weakened."

Then Kisame sucks Bee dry of chakra, and the chakra returns to Kisame - making him healthier and stronger.

Tsunade was once in a weakened state, and as a result was in a coma for several weeks, hovering between life and death. Kisame instead gets pumped full of chakra and immediately afterward summons 1,000 sharks, tanks a Hirudora, and uses his brute strength to break out of Yamato's wooden stocks, then spits out a water prison and feeds himself to his sharks.

Anyway, my point here is to prove Kisame's self-healing (with Samehada) is very underlooked and if not superior, at least on par with Byakogou users.

The top self healers in the manga (excluding God tiers) would probably be something like:

-Kabuto
-Hashirama
-Kisame
-Kimimaro
-Sakura
-Tsunade

Very true, Samehada's a pretty valuable tool. Though I would give it the credit of regeneration rather than Kisame. I mean, technically even Bee has this ability now.

I suppose. In the end though, Samehada is a tool, and its wielder (Kisame) gets the abilities of the tool

my only problem with the argument is that Kisame lost that ability when he lost Samehada. There was definitely no healing happening on his part when Gai was done with him.

Yeah, it is due to Samehada I acknowledged that. However, I view Samehada as a tool which is part of the wielder's power just like a summoning animal is counted as part of the summoner's power.

Tsunade/Sakura could regenerate that, you don't really have anything holding you side than we never saw but that is exactly my arguement and we know what their jutsu can do so :) :) :)

Noone gaf about shortened life span it has never been given one in the manga noone else cares every jutsu has it's downside and to achieve medical greatness that is it just like kisame needed samehada and hashirama needed SM

Only if he can keep Samehada in contact with his opponent for a long time, and only if they have a lot of chakra.

If Tsunade did manage to regenerate that, it would have come at a dear cost: huge loss of chakra, shortened lifespan, transformation into an old lady and maybe even a coma. Kisame never showed signs of fatigue or chakra exhaustion from using Samehada's healing properties.
