Villain.

Any belief to the contrary for me was gone when he killed Naomi Misora.

I think that the whole message of the story was that there is no hero or villain. That's why they let you choose who you want to win. Both sides have good arguments but both sides disagree with each other. Light was lowering the global crime rate but he was killing off many people including people who got in his way (he kinda had to though) and the police were trying to catch a mass serial killer but they were ironically getting in the way of a lower crime rate.

Started as a hero who became too enamored with his own power, descended into insanity, and became a villain. I usually think of the crossover point being when he kills the FBI agents. I will admit that I wanted Kira to win in the end though.

Villainous Hero aka Vigilante. Would do Anything by Any Means to justify and achieve his own form of Justice; regardless of his own injustices, misguided thoughts and/or beliefs =/

He had honest intentions at first but then he started going off the handles when he had to cover his tracks.

So he was someone who could've been a hero but turned into a villain.

Kira is someone who's Ideals show that the Ends Justify the means. You see his point, the world is rotten and could do without a select few, he also actually brought an end to world conflict. No wars, no crime. Ironically his character represents God

L is someone who thinks doing bad thing with good intentions is still Bad he goes by the Law. Ironically his character represents Humananity

Thats how I've begun to look at death note. Light to me is what would happen if The actual God was on earth. Bad people and those who oppose god shall be smited.

L is the man rejecting Gods idea its not human theirs no morality in it. Its just senseless killing at the end of the day.

Death Note is basically Humanity challenging God.

Well, he certainly didn't save the people he killed. While his intentions were good, I don't think we can call a terrorist a hero. Even if his dictator act was not genuine, he still killed many people including innocent people (at least I think). He is DEFINITELY NOT evil though. He is an anti-hero.

May have started out with good intentions, but in the end, I think Light was more focused on saving his skin and killing the ones coming after him than killing criminals. He even mentioned later on (Episode 32, I think) that he intended on killing people who weren't hardworking members of society, as well, so I'd say he all but lost sight of his original goals.

I usually think of Light and Kira as two different people. Light is who began his quest with good intentions and is the person we saw trying to catch "Kira" with L after he had his own memory wiped. Kira is the thing that Light became after the power of the deathnote and his own ego twisted his mind.

Light is a Fallen Hero who would stop at nothing so his perfect world can exist just like how Obito was.
