Cold rain gently misted down on the shingles of the houses below, barely audible now. It had rained very heavily all night but was now starting to slack off with the approach of the August morning. Red and yellow rays attempted to burst past the remaining dark clouds in the sky, indicating another morning had come and another night passed. All across the city people were rising from their beds as the morning light crept in through their windows, disgruntedly turning off their buzzing alarm clocks, pulling on their warm robes and trying to wake up by either splashing their faces with water or downing a morning cup of coffee.

In one such house the resident had already rose from his bed and had been watching the sky as the rain slowly lost its battle with the morning sun, looking down over the city below. Sammichilia was known the world over as being one of the most beautiful cities in the world. All of the buildings were pure white, and all of the streets painted a bright golden color, jewels adorned many buildings as well as beautiful sculptures and some of the most breathtaking architecture in the world. From afar the city resembled what some thought Heaven to look like, but Sammichilia was far from being anything like Heaven. For its citizens every day was a living nightmare.

The king and his generals that ruled over Sammichilia were terrible dictators who had killed the previous rulers and claimed the throne as their own. These days the citizens of Sammichilia lived for only one purpose: To serve their king and every day was under a strict schedule. Every able body person was forced to work with little or no pay from dawn till dusk, children were made to go to school every day regardless of their health and once they had graduated they too would take up whatever job the King bestowed upon them. Should you not be able to do this, or refuse to do this, usually the result was death.

"I can't shake this feeling that something bad is going to happen today." He thought to himself as he pulled himself away from the window and finished getting ready for his first day of school in this new place. He dragged himself downstairs and fixed himself a bowl of Cheerios and absentmindedly munched on them while staring at the wall, trying to shake the feelings of doubt that were entering his mind. "What if someone recognizes me.." He thought as he put the bowl down in the sink. He shook his head as if that would make the thoughts disappear and grabbed his book bag and ran out the door, checking his watch. If he didn't hurry he was going to be late for his first day of school.

"Late, late, late!! Why am I always late?!" She thought to herself as she ran down the street at full speed towards the school building, rounding a corner only to crash head first into another person sending them both sprawling backwards onto the ground with a thud and a scream. "Owwww!!" She wailed as she sat up. "Are you okay?" Asked the boy she'd just had a head on collision with, "Let me help you." He said as he reached down to help pick up the school items that had fallen out of her backpack, only to jump back in fear screaming. "K..K..KEEP THAT AWAY FROM ME!!" He screamed ducking behind a nearby lamp post in fear while the girl stared blankly back and forth between him and the her rubber duck that had fallen out of her bag.

"You..'re... scared, of my rubber duck Frank?" She asked questionably picking it up and shaking it at him. "YES! JESUS WILL YOU PUT THAT THING AWAY!! So many bad childhood memories!!" He shouted at her. "Fine, fine. Calm down will you, stop shrieking like a little girl." She replied as she put the duck back into the bag. "I am not shrieking like a little girl I'll have you know! I just have Anatidaephobia. It's very common! And who carries around a rubber duck anyways?!" He answered. "I've had it since I was little, it goes everywhere with me, if you have a problem with that maybe you should tell it to the duck!" She half-shouted back at him while reaching to pull the duck out again. "No! No, that's quite alright, keep that thing to yourself." He said shivering a bit from the thought of having to see that thing again.

Just then there was a loud noise behind them and both turned to see what was going on. It was one of the evil generals, Tyson of the front. He was leading a small troop through the streets and they certainly weren't doing much to keep their presence unknown. Some were singing loudly, some kicking trash cans and shooting their guns off haphazardly into the sky. "I hate those guys." The girl sneered as they watched them pass down the street opposite of them. "That makes two of us then." He answered. "By the way, I haven't introduced myself yet. My name is Aeon." He said extending his hand. "Ayame" She answered, shaking his hand.

"You know I hear they didn't always use to be so bad." Ayame said as she walked along in the direction of school with her new found friend. "I heard the new King Kai got possessed with an evil spirit that used him to possess the generals, and then overthrow the previous King and Queen." Aeon didn't say anything as they continued walking, just stared at the ground and appeared to be in deep thought. "I wonder if it's possible that they'll ever be stopped." She asked rhetorically staring up at the sky, only to be shaken out of her own thoughts when a loud booming voice came from behind the two.

"Talking about the King and his generals is strictly forbidden by law! Don't you know that little girl or are you just feeling suicidal today?" Said the voice of an evil looking general staring down at the both of them with a smirk on his face. "T..That's Kono of the left isn't it?" She asked frightened. "Behind me." Aeon said as he jumped in between Ayame and the general. "Oh look, two little kids ready to die today." Smirked the general as he picked up Aeon by the collar of his shirt. "Hey do I know you kid, you look kind of familiar.." Kono said just as Tyson rounded the corner. "Kono! What are you doing? Stop messing around with those kids and come on. We have serious work to do today." Shouted the General Tyson. "Looks like you got lucky today, kid." Kono mumbled as he tossed Aeon into Ayame sending them both crashing backwards into some garbage cans and a metal chain fence.

"Are you okay?" Asked Aeon as he picked bits of paper off of his clothes. "Yeah, I think so, could have been a lot worse." Ayame answered as she winced, standing up, noticing a cut just above her knee. "You're bleeding." Aeon said looking at the mark. "Oh that, that's nothing I can't handle." She replied, placing her finger over the small cut. It glowed a faint purple for a few moments and then faded away. She removed her finger only to reveal the cut had miraculously disappeared. "You have healing powers?" Aeon asked amazed. "Sort of." She answered, "I'm not that great at it, I don't exactly have much time to practice it but I guess I've gotten better at it over the years." Just then the two of them heard a bell ringing behind them. "WE'RE LATE!" They both shouted in unison and ran off as fast as they could to the school building located about a block away.

"So glad you could join us this morning Miss Ayame and Mr. Aeon. You can also join us after school for detention for being late. Now take your seats." The teacher said sternly upon their late arrival to the classroom causing both students to groan while the others giggled. "This is all your fault!" Ayame hissed angrily at him as they sat down. "My fault?! How is it my fault!?" He replied. "Would you both like to have detention for the rest of the week?" Asked the teacher overhearing their conversation. "No ma'am" Answered Ayame, giving Aeon another angry glare as he sighed and put his head down on his desk. "My fault? That girls insane she's the one that ran into me, she's the one that almost got us killed but noooo, it's all MY fault." He scoffed to himself

I can't believe I got stuck in detention on day one of the new school year." Ayame thought to herself while mopping the long hallway of the school and glaring at Aeon. "Will you stop staring at me like that, this is as much your fault as it is mine." Aeon shouted at her when he noticed she was still glaring at him. "I ought to hit you with this mop!" Ayame shouted in reply but the two were cut off before any damage could befall either of them by a scream and whir of wind as another student ran and dived towards Ayame, knocking her to the ground. "AYAYAYAYA!!!" He shouted excitedly while hugging her. "I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!!" "Geez would you get off me?" She answered trying to push him off her, "You just saw me at lunch Pein." He blushed and got off her, pulling her up with him. "I know but, hey who is your friend?" He asked turning his attention towards Aeon.

"Oh no, don't even think about jumping on me like that." Aeon said without hesitation holding a mop in front of him for protection. Pein stared at Aeon a moment as if deep in thought, "Do I know you from somewhere?" He asked, approaching Aeon and staring at him closely but before either could say another word a loud explosion rattled and shook the whole building. "What was that?" Ayame wondered as she looked out the window of the school hall, only to see a giant puff of smoke forming off into the sky not very far away from where they were. "That looks like it was down at one of the factories" Pein answered. "OH NO!" Ayame wailed "That's... That's where my brother works!" Without a second thought she dropped her mop and ran off down the hall and out the school in the direction of the factory. "Ayayayaya! Wait for me!" Pein screeched and ran off after her. "Guess I have to follow them, or they'll probably just get themselves killed." Aeon thought before dropping his own mop and chasing off after them.

"I hope nothing bad has happened to him." Ayame thought as she ran towards the explosion, her heart pounding in her chest. Her brother was the only family she had left anymore since their parents were killed a few years ago during a revolution that was attempting to put a stop to the evil King Kai. Unfortunately the revolution failed, and all involved were brutally slaughtered. She had just about reached the entrance to the factory when Aeon and Pein caught up to her and the three peered around the rickety wooden fence to see if they could see what was going on.

There on the lawn of the factory stood the two most evil of the generals, the same ones they had ran into earlier, Tyson of the front, and Kono of the left. They had most factory workers sprawled out on the ground, some were bleeding, and there amongst them stood her brother, Sai. He had been handcuffed and his face had blood on it from some unknown wound. "Sai Iwatoshi, you are being taken prisoner for violating law #47, section 2, paragraph 11 for high treason to the throne. Do you have anything to say for yourself?" Tyson asked sneering at Sai who remained silent with an unwavering stare and cold eyes. "Very well", said Tyson, "Take this traitor away." Tyson commanded as they started to pull Sai into one of the army police cars.

"NO SAI!!" Ayame half-shouted, ready to run to her brothers aid but was forcefully knocked to the ground by Aeon. "Are you insane? If you go out there they will just arrest you too, there is nothing you can do for him right now, getting yourself arrested won't do anyone any good." He said to her as she lay on the ground staring off after her brother as the car he was in began to pull away. "No! I won't let them just take him! He's all I have left!" She cried. "Listen to me. We've all lost people, we all miss someone, no ones lives have remained untouched by what has befallen our city, but I'll say this again to you, there is nothing you can do right now. We will find a way to get your brother back though." She said nothing as she watched the car pull away and off into the distance taking the only remaining family she had away.

It had started to rain again, you could hear the thunder off in the distance and the pitter patter of the rain as it began to lightly hit the shingles. Aeon sat on the edge of the bed, and Ayame sat on the floor hugging her knees. No one said anything until Pein came in, bright and cheery as always wielding a plate of cookies. "I made cookies! Chocolate chip! Who wants some?" He asked with a bright smile on his face, only to be unanswered by his friends. "Come on guys don't be that way, cheer up at least a little bit, we'll figure out something." He said as he sat down in a nearby chair sitting the cookies to one side on an in table.

"Your family died in the revolution, right?" Aeon asked Ayame after several moments of no one saying a word, she didn't say anything, just nodded her head. "Do you think your brother could have been involved in an underground society that was possibly looking to lead another revolt on the evil King?" She stared off out the window and nodded her head slowly. "It's probably very likely. Sai always wanted to follow in our parents footsteps, to put this kingdom back the way it once was." She answered as he slunk down off the bed, sitting next to her on the floor. "Do you know anyone that might be involved with him?" Aeon asked her, again she nodded. "There is this guy, Mike, he's Sai's closest friend, if anyone knows it would be him." She replied. "Alright then, tomorrow we'll go find this Mike guy and figure out how to get your brother back." Aeon said putting his arms around Ayame and hugging her, trying to smile. Even he wasn't too convinced of what he was saying. Could they really get her brother back? Or would they just get arrested and possibly murdered themselves?
