The vs section is proably not your best place to be go pick up role playing. Gai is super fast. Lee fought Kim but did he get taken out by blitz? Now use that same logic with D until he jumps on clay and then its GG from there. He has tons of enough room to dodge at bus length

I agree that if Deidara gets into the air quick enough that Kimimaro loses. But currently i'm not too convinced that Deidara will just substitute away from Kimimaro's head on attack. Deidara has a decent substitution speed, but not speed in general. He was caught by Gaara's sand before he even realized what happened.

Also, it appears as if Deidara chose to wait and try to understand what was happening when Kakashi started Kamuing him. He could have easily flown away at the moment the jutsu started, but he didn't. And because of that he lost an arm. This doesn't really show any speed feats but it should be noted that Deidara chose not to avoid an attack he saw coming. What's going to happen when he doesn't even have enough time to see Kimimaro coming?

After reading from chapter 247-515 (albeit some was skimmed.. I mostly paid attention to Deidara) it seems that the only way Kimimaro could win this would be high difficulty. Once Deidara takes to the air, Kimi loses.

Honestly even on the ground we know Deidara's expert evasive skills from when he was running circles around Team Guy with no arms and then escaped as a decoy underground. Whilst he's at a clear disadvantage on the ground, he can still clearly get himself back up in the air with no problem.
