I'll try O__O

I stand forward with my bokken in my right hand and my right foot slightly in front of my left holding the bokken in a 50 degree angle upwards. I then in a quick motion make a quick step forward while lunging out with the bokken in a quick forward motion striking the dummy on its chest before I pull back into my regular stance.

Alright so now we'll be moving on to movements.

You can preform a sidestep by either pushing off with your opposite leg (If I want to rush right, I push off with my left leg), or by actually quickly stepping in that direction.

It's pretty simple, but immensely useful...but I'm pretty sure you knew that already.

Try describing a movement as if a vertical slash was coming down at you.

Kinda knew that already but still useful to get it summed up :D

Imaginary bokken is coming down upon me, where as I have my bokken in my right hand, and as the bokken drops down from above in a vertical motion, I in a quick motion slide my right foot backwards while making a quick step to the left making me move slightly to the left while also turning my body so that the blade passes right by me.

????? is that what you wanted or do you want me to like dash away or something.

this is fine and i have you do this as in one motion with using swords this is all important.

And now, what attacks do you think you could avoid by jumping?

by jumping, mostly horizontal slashes I presume, though I am not sure and cross slashes O_O dunno. It kinda depends on the different slashes and jumps, like horizontal slashes you jump upwards, vertical slashes you can jump to the side O_O

actually, just anything that is directed towards your lower half of the body. What if someone tries to strike you in the upper torso????

*facepalm*

Well damn.... hm.... you can jump backwards to avoid being slashed, though it will open for another streak of attacks from the opponent, where as you could also jump forward as they are slashing at you and while doing so blocking their sword with your sword in mid-air and then resulting in you lets say kicking them in the face, combining taijutsu and kenjutsu. O_O sorry sensei

Now, as for counter-attacking from a block -with your blade locked with the opponents, you want to quickly disengage and attack; the key to this is to disengage in your favor.

However, a useful thing to do is consider how you blocked and how it can transition into a blow. An example is this - if I'm locked at cross with my opponent with my blade held horizontally above me, a great counter-attack is to push my opponents blade upward as I unfold my blade; this will cause their blade to go upward and to their left, not only putting their blade on the outside, but also putting the opponent off balance and putting them in a position that their strike wouldn't be able to do near as much damage.

Questions?

Okay....

I dash at you with my bokken in hand and as I approach you, I raise the bokken into the air above my head holding it with both hands and in the last possible moment I bring it down onto your head while I simultaneously jump slightly above the ground giving me the momentum of gravity for a moment giving the bokken just a little more power.
