There couldn't be water all the time, so Pantha and his sensei would take a break here and there, and learn about swordmanship and kenjutsu. This was one of Pantha's passion, he dreamed of wielding great and powerful swords, unique and interesting too. He was very honoured to be learning the skill from his personal sensei.

Dean and Panthalassa decided to go for a change of scenery. Swords and stuff, or rather Kenjutsu. This was going to be a different type of training for Panthalassa, since Kenjutsu was a faster and had less techniques.

"It seems we'll be doing something new, eh? Kenjutsu, the way of the sword. Do you have a sword? >_> I hope you do, this is a very practical session. Now, to begin, tell me what you know about Kenjutsu?"

Dean waited for Panthalassa to tell him, he was quite knowledgeable overall, maybe he knew something about swords.

Panthalassa took in the surroundings, as he looked all around him. There were countless of tents all around, somewhat similar to the Fishman market, but a bit more eclectic and colorful, very exotic.

Well, I grabbed this katana from the Dojo back in my village. I don't have a sword of my own, at least not yet. I want to learn Kenjutsu to apply it to my own unique type of sword, which is going to be a Scythe. I've been trying to develop a ninjutsu technique that allows me to take over a fusion of my insect's chitin and a chakra conductive metal I was able to import from the Land of Earth... well... counterfeit... most of our dealings is with pirates...

Kenjutsu is the art of the sword. It's a martial art that uses bladed weapons, studies them and develops them, more comonly the katana but that can be applied to a whole range of swords. It is a branch of Taijutsu, which is body combat. Kenjutsu can be explored through the physical manoeuvring of the sword itself, to parry, deflect or slash, or through the projection of the sword, as a chakra flying slash.

Though it serves as an art that covers bladed weapons, it's more about hand-held swords than projectile and ranged blades.

Panthalassa had a plan for his Kenjutsu, which involved Scythes and more bug stuff. He really was going to go all out on his Aburame stuff, Dean was impressed. He remembered that he was never really a person to plan extremely far ahead, but that was irrelevant. Since Panthalassa already had a sword, they could start off.

"Alright, good. That's interesting, chitin huh? Anyway, we'll be doing this training differently from the Water training. I'll explain the technique, and I want you to perform it against a clone of mine, state two advantages and disadvantages of the technique and how you would use it in battle. If you have questions, be sure to ask. Its a short training session, so its easy. We'll do two techniques at a time. All clear?"

Dean asked Panthalassa with his sword in hand.

"Alright then, grab that sword tight as we begin our adventure into the world of Kenjutsu.

The first technique is simple. With your sword in hand, you will dash towards the opponent and once you reach close range, you will perform several slashes to the opponent's body. At this point, you are free to perform any type of slash, aimed anywhere, so the technique has some freedom. After doing a few slashes, you will perform a final slash that deals liberal damage to the opponent. Very simple, I'd say, I don't think you'll have a problem with it."

Dean creates a clone that dashes towards Panthalassa, with his very own sword in hand and ready to use it.

"After performing that, with advantages and all, we'll go to the next technique. Another quick technique, where you will dash towards the opponent with your sword in hand. As you reach said opponent, you will deliver several punches to the opponent. These are also left to your freedom, so you beat the up nicely before going on with the technique. After performing the punches, you will deliver two final slashes to the opponent's body, killing him off. Same deal, and simple too."

Dean then creates another clone that dashes in an arc to the right.

Panthalassa steadies himself as he sees two clones heading towards him. The first technique his sensei described consisted in approaching the opponent, throw a couple of feint sword slashes and then perform one final slash. The second incorporated hand-to-hand combat mixed with sword slashes. They were simple enough, and, without the scroll to read the techniques for himself, he wasn't sure of there was any chakra involved, and, because of that, he wasn't sure there was any purpose to use these techniques instead of just free-forming with his sword.

Lost in thoughts, he was almost caught unaware as the clones approached him with swords. One tried to perform a vertical slash, that would surely split his head open. Moving opposite to the second clone, he swerved left, running his sword across the side of the first clone's blade, and deflecting it, and, his whole body, to his right, directing the tip of the blade against the second clone.

While it wasn't a particularly strong shove, and easily parried by the second clone, it left the first clone open, as Pantha shoved his shoulder onto the man's ribcage, opening his guard, and then punched him in the kidneys. Hurt, but angry, the first clone stepped in front of the second clone and twist around, slashing the air with an horizontal cut. With his view obstructed by the first clone, the second clone did not notice Pantha ducking bellow the slash and bringing his own sword upwards, through his guard, slashing him across the torso. Pantha then spun around, slashing the first clone's neck before impaling the second in the chest, standing in front of him.

I have a few questions! How does Kenjutsu interact with other elements? Is it the same as Ninjutsu ( weak to all elements ) ? Hyuuga Ninjutsu ( neutral to all elements ) ? And what about Taijutsu?

Panthalassa quickly did as he was told, and performed the techniques against the clones. He was quite impressive with the sword. No wonder he wanted to learn it. Dean then grabbed two scrolls from his bag, which contained the details of the techniques which he had just learned. Dean then throws them towards Panthalassa.

"Great job. Interesting question. Its weak to all elements, bar a few techniques which are B rank and are capable of negating B rank and below Ninjutsu with it. Though it has some chakra in some techniques, it doesn't mean that it is equal to said rank of Ninjutsu. I will mention of it is a special technique, and how it interacts. Anyway, here you go."

Rank: C
Type: Offensive
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 10
Damage points: 25
Description: With this technique, the user will make a sequence of slashes with their sword and finishes with a powerful final slash dealing liberal damage to their enemy.

Rank: C
Type: Offensive
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 10
Damage points: 25
Description: The user punches the opponent a few times and finishes them with two final slashes with their blade or sword.

"Now we'll move on to the next two techniques. Both are very simple to be honest, and that is why it is up to the user to make Kenjutsu interesting. Anyway, in this technique, with your sword in hand, you will dash towards the opponent. Once you reach them, you will extend your sword and use the momentum of your run to start spinning your body around. This allows you to spin, and hit the target several times. Best used against a group of opponents trying to ambush you, not really practical against a single opponent as you expose your back and what not. Use it against my clones."

Dean creates several clones that ambush Panthalassa.

"After that, dash towards the opponent with your sword in your dominant hand. Once you get close enough, you will perform an upwards jump and point your sword downwards. The sword is then aimed to strike your opponent from above, drilling into him. A nice technique, which can be used from a higher position or by simply jumping up. Use it on my clone."

Dean creates a clone that runs towards Panthalassa.

Panthalassa read the scrolls fully, but he was scratching his back.

I don't understand why this techniques would have chakra attached. They aren't particularly fast, nor coomplex. They have no strength to anything, not even basic ninjutsu, which is already a one down from Aburame, which at least are strong to wood and raw chakra. And I'm assuming using this technique prevents me from using other techniques, like ninjutsu, at least simultaneously. Why would one use these techniques instead of doing the same motions, but waste no chakra?

Pantha asked these after his Sensei had stopped talking, and was launching barrage after barrage of clones after him. He gripped his sword tight and then lunged at the army, stepping his left foot down and pivoting, turning the sword on his hands as he spun around, deflecting the clones around hi with a swoop of his sword before slashing the clones opposite of those. With just a few left, he jumped up, driving a sword upon the head of one, and finishing his speech by punching the remaining one in the face.

Also, can I propose something? Instead of telling me about the techniques, and letting me display them on clones, who do not fight back, I think it would be much more interesting if we spar. Throughout the spar, you keep describing me several techniques, in between freestyle and old techniques, weaving the new ones throughout, while I mimic your while keeping my guard up to not lose my footing. This would feel much more dynamic and I would be able to see first hand how to use the techniques in an interpretation different than my own.

Dean listens to Panthalassa who had an interesting suggestion, that they perhaps fight each other instead of clones. He was a bit rusty, but it was a nice suggestion overall. Dean threw the two scrolls towards him, as he says to him;

"Alright, we can try that. Just don't die on me ;-;."

Dean dashes towards Panthalassa with his sword still sheathed. He runs in an arc to his left, Panthalassa's right. As he closes in on him, he says;

"Let's try this out then, the next technique is quite odd. It starts off with..."

Dean unsheathes his sword, and blasts towards Panthalassa with great speed. He then uses the handle of his sword, to strike him in the stomach, in order to stagger him. This would happen in a blitz, and allow Dean to continue his explanation.

"..slamming the opponent with the handle of the sword, and continuing with..."

Dean then delivers several kicks towards Panthalassa. All free form though, aimed at his stomach area, and then a little bit more towards his chest. This would aim to launch him upwards into the air.

"...kicks, which aim to send you airborne. Once you are, I will..."

Dean then dashes towards the flying Panthalassa and performs a front flip kick, downwards which sends him crashing to the ground.

Panthalassa studied his sensei's movements closely. He would have to allow some of the motions find their place, in order to fully witness the technique. His first attack was a simple strike with the handle of his sword. Panthalassa took in the blow to the stomach, curving forward reflexively. When his sensi tried to follow up with several kicks, he softened the first with his hands, and then the second with his arms crossed, though allowing himself to be thrown in the air anyway, except now he himself was flipping in the air.

When his sensei flipped around to deliver a frontwards kick, panthalssa would have somersaulted out of the way, landing a few steps back, massaging his stomach with his free hand, the left one, while holding his sword with his right.

So this kenjutsu his mainly kickjutsu.

Then he shot forward, driving his sword in a lunge, straight towards the man's heart. There were no particular technique powering this one motion, for Panthalassa was waiting his sensei to keep describing more new techniques before he started showing them back, otherwise the battle would become really predictable.

As Panthalassa strikes forward, Dean quickly spins his body to his right, evading the incoming lunge of his student's sword. Nonetheless, he decided to follow up on the next technique on the list.

"When in short range, channel your chakra into your sword and perform an upward slash...."

Dean then grabs his sword tightly, as he aims to strike Panthalassa with an upward slash which would send him airborne, which was one of the main aims of the technique.

"...as the opponent goes airborne, you will appear above them and deliver a sharp drilling slash downwards, which would impel them into the ground..."

Dean appears above Panthalassa, and prepares to strike downwards upon him, however, misses him in order to not kill him. He needed him alive, how would he have a student if he was dead? :coffee:

Panthalassa once again allowed the technique to go through, parrying just enough to avoid damage but still being tossed airborne. When his sensei appeared above him, in a burst of speed, Pantha rotated his body awkwardly, in mid-air, focusing his mid-section into powering his parry. This would force the downwards drilling to miss, and, from the momentum, give even more speed to Panthalassa's rotation, allowing him to, in one move, deflect his Sensei's slash and hit his chest with the handle of his sword, spilling the air from his lungs.

As he's pushed back to the ground, he stepped with his right foot, and twisted, following up his strike to the chest with a circular kick, rising his left ankle upwards as he spins around vertically, tossing his sensei, stunned by the handle strike, back onto the air. Then he would jump upwards, punching his Sensei in the back with both fists, pushing him towards a nearby tent.

Dean watches as Panthalassa tries to counter him, and allows the technique to go through, as he tighten the muscles of his stomach. Panthalassa delivers a powerful blow to his stomach with the sword handle, and then continues with a combination that Dean had just taught him now. He was impressed. He strikes Dean back into the air, and as such, Dean knew he was going to try and push him into an obstacle, however, he started speaking as he gripped his sword tightly.

"Next technique merely requires one to charge chakra through your sword..."

As Panthalassa comes towards Dean, Dean uses his legs to push off from Panthalassa, allowing him to gain some distance as he travels from mid air onto the ground with his sword in hand. As he lands, he says;

"...And simply performing a crescent-shaped slash, one releases a red wave of chakra!"

Dean releases the stored chakra in the form of a red wave that travels towards Panthalassa. The power of red wave is simply B ranks and can be countered with the same technique, or anything equal to it. Dean watches as his student would try and take down the wave.

Panthalassa heard as his sensei described his next technique. While he preferred to not repete the same technique his teacher just showed, he needed it now, since he hadnt been taught any technique of the required rank that would correctly counter this new slash of redor chakra. Só he spread his chakra through his sword and, instead of leaping to his sensei, he Stilled himself and charged the chakra and released the slice to conter his sensei`s.

We'll be skipping the technique that requires the Chidori, since we haven't done Lightning yet or since you won't be doing Lightning yet.

Panthalassa counters the technique with ease, and as such, Dean was impressed. He didn't want to go all out, and his skill with a sword wasn't something to write home about though. The two techniques cancel each other out, and as Dean knows this, he dashes towards Panthalassa with his sword in hand, as he channels his chakra into his sword.

"I'm not going easy, I am teaching U_U. Channel chakra into your sword, making it glow in a blue colour...."

Saying this, Dean's sword glows in a blue colour and as it does, Dean is quite close to Panthalassa once more. He then jumps in the air, as starts spinning his body.

"...you will then spin your body, and create a blue circle of chaos!"

Dean spins so fast, with his sword extended and with chakra running through it, it becomes quite deadly. If Panthalassa does not defend, he'll be cut.

Panthalassa steadied himself, pointing the tip of his sword downwards. As his sensei flew in the air, spinning a blue circle of slashes, Pantha pulled in a mesh of dirt and dust, picking it up with the surface of his sword. When L-sensei dropped in, he flicked his sword outwards, shooting the dirt outwards in a cloud, that would be aimed directly at his sensei's head. While he would be spinning, there would still be quite an attempt to keep his eyesight steady, in order to not get dizzy and keep aiming. Taking away his vision, or simply throwing him off balance by the sudden impact of the dirt, he would lose his concentration. Pantha would take this chance to jump high in the air, over the wonky spinning technique, and then drop down, sword downwards.

This would drill his sword onto his sense's main shoulder, I believe it to be the right shoulder, inflicting superficial damage, but still stopping the motion and countering it by it's axis, without actually having to counter the sword itself.

As Dean spins, his vision is quickly taken away from his by a dust cloud. He knew Panthalassa was going to counter, and as such, he was quite cautious. He wasn't wrong. From above, he aimed to strike, it was a smart move and as such, Dean decided to use a classic Academy technique. He replaced his body with a nearby barrel. Panthalassa strikes it, and Dean laughs as he says;

"Well, that's all we can do for now. There are two techniques left, but without Lightning training, we can't do them yet. So..."

Dean takes out a bottle of Gin.

After piercing a log instead of his sensei, Pantha tried to unstuck his sword, even going as far as putting one foot on the log and putting his back into pulling the sword, but it was quite stuck. He decided to act normal, to keep face.

But sensei, what about this technique?

( Kenjutsu: Hirashin ) - Sword Technique: Lightning Rod
Rank: A
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 30
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user by use of a sword can use it as a rod to attract lightning currents that are channeled into the user from opponents attacks and by pointing the tip of the blade into the ground the user is then able to dispel the lightning charge nullifing the effects of paralysis. However this only works on free flowing lightning based techniques such as the Chidori current and not on focused lightning based techniques

Does this require lightning?

"Oh, I must have missed that one. Since you have the scroll with you, how about you use it to counter my Lightning technique then? I'll release a blast of Lightning towards you, then you do as the technique says. However, this technique only works against free flowing Lightning techniques like Chidori Nagashi."

As Dean says this, he manipulates his Lightning based chakra and releases Chidori Nagashi from himself.

Rank: A
Type: Offense/Defence
Range: Short (Mid if channeled through a medium)
Chakra Cost: 30
Damage Points: N/A (+10 if used to boost weapon damage)
Description: This jutsu allows the user to generate non-focused electricity from their body. It can be used as an omnidirectional attack or be channeled through weapons, the ground or other conductive mediums. Because the electricity isn't focused, it doesn't kill on contact, instead it has great numbing and paralyzing effects. To channel Nagashi through a medium, the user needs to focus the technique into one of his hands which will then be put in contact with the medium and can only choose to either do a widespread attack throughout his whole body or to channel it into something; he cannot achieve both usages at the same time. Despite not having much destructive or damaging properties, Nagashi can be used to destroy low rank earthen and wooden structures and even negate chakra on the ground to stop high ranked earth and wood techniques. It has also been noted that Lightning Specialists that have mastered Lightning to the highest degree can resist total paralyzation, although they still feel the pain and numbing effects.
Note: Paralyzation lasts 1 turn if sucessful but is ineffective against bios who have a primary Lightning Specialty
