While waiting for your sensei, you stand there rubbing your hair, adjusting your pouch, etc. Suddenly, on the winds breeze, you hear faint noises. In front of you, Daenerys stands with a katana - slowly placing it back with her sheath. When it fully enters and with that last click, you feel your clothes slice before they fall right off your body.

Welcome student. Apologies for the clothes. You're hear to learn the way of the sword - soft and cunning. You will barely notice it coming before it's too late. Gaining mastery over the blade takes discipline and a clever mind. Like all trainings, I want you to explain what kenjutsu is? How is it achieved? How are you capable enough to master the sword.

Daenerys hands you new clothes

Go..

Well kenjutsu has to do with techniques that are performed through the use of swords when fighting. It can be combined with other skills like channeling regular chakra or elemental chakra into the blade to increase its potency, ninjutsu, taiijutsu, and genjutsu to make the persons attacks that much more devastating. Not sure if I'm capable enough but, we'll know soon enough.

Good answer.

Now, I see you already have a bokuto. Then I guess you won't need the one I have brought for you. Either way, training is the art of the sword reigns upon all sorts of emotions. Even the most angry of swordsmen can still overthrow an empire of peaceful swordsmen yet what makes one user over another? That is a answer I cannot tell you. You must figure that out as we go and decide what you think makes a master at the end of our training. So, being a swordsmen bears down to cunning, intellect, and a keen eye. I'll break down your training in each of those aspects.

*Daenerys takes out a scroll - unravels it and slams his hand upon it. Suddenly 3 doorways rise behind Daenerys - one says cunning, the other intellect, the last keen eye*

When the time is right you will walk through each doorway to test yourself in that aspect. We'll start with cunning. Explain to me what that is? How does it work into swordplay?

Begin..

Kenjutsu is a method of combat which employs the usage of a sword or swords depending on the capability and choice of the swordsman. Regular katana can be used to achieve kenjutsu but still, some prefer having theirs specially made to their taste.

Kenjutsu can be achieved in primarily two ways. The first is by normal swordplay and the second is by using chakra - elemental and non-elemental to accentuate this swordplay. Sword attacks may be carried out single-handedly (with one hand) or double-handedly(with both hands). A sword attack handled with both hands is stronger than that which is handled with one hand but it is a tad bit slower.

The sword can be mastered with constant practice and meditation. This helps the swordsmen better understand their sword and its goal/desire and thus the person's soul becomes one with that of the sword. When that is acheived, the sword can be said to have been mastered.

Uh, Naizen is gonna be joining us if its not too much trouble.

Well this is new to me so, here goes...Cunning is to be clever and showing skill in deceiving or tricking your opponents. How that works into swordplay?....Well for example when Omoi displayed the reverse beheading technique. He tricked Deidara into thinking he was going to slash at him but, instead he spun in reverse, generating that momentum and slashed the threads that were controlling the two leaf ninja that Sasori had captured behind him. Basically he attacked the targets that are behind him instead of the targets in front of him while at the same time fooling them.

Yeah, I'll be joining if it's not much of a hassle.

Well, being cunning no doubt plays a vital role in kenjutsu. Since sword attacks are most times very straightforward, cunning allows the swordsmen to fool opponents into believing that they are going through with the conventional straightforward slash when they actually have a backup plan. Hence, when/if the opponent falls for their trickery, the main attack is then launched. A perfect example is that which demon fang stated.

Good answer.

You cannot be reckless, indeed. Cunning is a hard ability to achieve - some are born with it while the rest have to learn it. It can be used in near anything in life, the way you talk or the walk you walk. However, we will learn it in the way of swordplay. Use your bokuto and fight my clone. Try your best to predict his movements - this will be hard and I do not expect you to be able to preform this right away.

Creates clone with a bokuto!

Now, you cannot expect to be able to predict an unknown targets movements right away. You kind of have to..test them to see how they react and how they move. with training you can do this much quicker to other unknown but since you're a novice it won't happen right away. Give it a go.

The clone charges are you - when he gets close he raises his bokuto and tries to stab you directly into the stomach..

*I hold out my bokuto holding it outward with my left hand and the tip of the sword facing the clone. Noticing my targets first action by charging at me, I first keep in mind of Sensei's words -

"Now, you cannot expect to be able to predict an unknown targets movements right away. You kind of have to..test them to see how they react and how they move"

So, to see what my opponent is all about, I do the same and head straight for him with bokuto gripped in hand. Once the is clone within range, I attempt to raise my bokuto and bring it downward to not only land a hit but, also analyze my opponents reactions/movements through this spar which is the goal.*

As your clone charges at me, I unsheath my sword slowly, observing its body movement and noting its fluidity when in motion. I hold my sword in my right hand, its tip pointing at a low angle towards the sky.

On entering short range of me, your clone raises its sword, aiming to skewer me in the stomach with it. With a swift twist of my wrist, my sword turns anti-clockwise, its tip now pointing to the ground while I move it upwards but towards my left, successfully hitting your clone's sword off the linear path to my stomach and to my left, his right. Since your clone was in motion when I hit its sword leftwards, it will have a hard time redirecting its sword or body in time for my attack.

As I redirect its sword with mine, I swiftly throw my left hand to its head, dealing a hard punch that leaves it disoriented for a few moments and open for further attack.

Good work, to the both of you.

Sensei looks around!

We need more stuff here.

With a snap of her finger, the sun goes out and back on. Suddenly the field we're in is filled with logs, dummies, a cabin, food, and other pieces of training equipment.

Well, see the standing log over yonder? Go over there and I want you to alternate between vertical and horizontal slashes with your bokuto. With every swing, gain a more fluid delivery, create a flow. Practice makes perfect, no? Begin, padawan.

*Listening to Sensei's instruction, I walk over with my bokuto held in my left hand to the training log that was directed to us. I then, begin to practice on the log by delivering a combo of slashes. A vertical slash then, bringing it back with another vertical slash, a vertical then, a horizontal slash, a horizontal followed by a another horizontal slash, and a horizontal slash with a vertical slash. I perform these in different orders until my swings become more fluid and my swordplay improves.*

*stomach growls* ~_~ ....I'm hungry....

Walking over to were the training logs stood idly, I station myself infront of one. With my sword already in hand, I pierce the log slightly and trail my hand upwards, leaving a smooth line on the rough bark of the log. I bend both of my legs a bit as I shuffle my right leg forward. With my battle ready stance, I grip my sword with both hands and throw my sword downwards with a force just enough to cut the log deeply but not split it. Not wasting a second, I release my left hand from the hilt of my sword and use my right hand to cut the log horizontally twice from left to right and then right to left. As the last horizontal slash is about to end, I transfer my sword to my left hand which is thrown upwards, dealing the log a vertical slash. I continue with this movement, shifting my body weight from left to right as I circle round the log, dealing it fluid horizontal and vertical slashes.

3 hours later..

So, you look a bit tired there? Seems like you need a break. Take a quick 10min break. Afterwards, I want you to practice lunges. Let me explain what a lunge is. More or less it's a stab, you'll be thrust your bokuto forward with the point headed towards the target, rather simple. this allows for pinpoint attacks like if you're targeting a certain body part or organ. However, it rather obvious to see coming and can easily be blocked. Let me show you what I expect;

Daenerys preforms a typical lunge onto the training dummie!

You must be registered for see images

Like so, the image shows more of a fencing lunge but the same concept nonetheless. Do it onto the training dummie until I return and stop you. Practice, practice, practice. While you're doing this try and stab certain areas like the head, legs, and chest. Aim is apart of this exercise so take this t the fully experience possible. Begin..

After the short break, I move over to where a training dummy. There I begin practicing lunges on the dummy. I thrust my sword forward, aiming for the place where lungs should be in a human. Then I withdraw and lunge at the left thigh; then at the neck; then the right arm; then the right foot. With every lunge I take, I make sure I employ fluidity and cunning so that it is harder to dodge.

*After getting a quick snack and watching Sensei perform the lunge, I walk over to training dummy with my bokuto in my right hand(I'm ambidextrous lol) and get into position to practice my lunge. I then, focus on my lunge using my bokuto at the training dummy stabbing at the various parts of the dummy such as the head, leg, and chest with accuracy and precision but, can be easily defended by opponent as I reel my Bokuto in before thrusting it forward. I also attempt to focus my lunge attack on where the organs would be on the dummy as if it were a real person with them.I keep practicing until you return.*

Good work, student. You may stop now.

Sensei gesture for you to stop.

Time for you to learn patience.

Sensei grabs the hilt of his katana and in a high speed movement, slices through your bokuto!

Don't worry. This is fair. Did you know making a katana takes many months? Well, a bokuto takes many many hours, even days. So, I want you to make your own. Time to put your heart and soul into something. I'm sure you're wondering how this applies to training..well, it tests your patience. Making a bokuto takes awhile and is quite difficult. You'll run into many areas and may have to start again. Go inside the cabin, following the instructions upon the scroll. All the things you need are there. good luck, padawan.

*I make my way to the cabin and look around for the scroll that will give the instructions.*

Ah, there it is.

*I unravel the scroll and take a look at it*

What materials do I need?.....
