i think kawaki will somehow manage to go to the battlefield perhaps by the help of amado this could be easily get done so in exchange for ishiki to leave naruto and sasuke alone kawaki will let ishiki put back the karma down again and ishiki and kawaki will leave.
Kawaki knew that naruto and sasuke are not strong enough so kawaki rather get possesed by ishiki that let naruto die.
After this perhaps its gonna have a time skip perhaps 2 years or 4 years or even 10 years where kawaki(possesed by ishiki) comes back to the leaf and he destroyed it.
boruto saw kawaki’s self sacrifice and he got a debt to kawaki that he will never forget to his life and also as a friend who helped his dad. This might gonna be another naruto and sasuke moment where boruto will follow kawaki and help him.
so basically yeah i think this what happen
