edit. k pic doens work somehow...: sasuke fighting hakus ice with fire. and didnt work. ice is kekkai genkai like wood...and katon is not hot enough..its level is not high enough to melt /burn it. but maybe amaterasu could

Trees naturally have water inside them to ward off some flames, but if the volume of flames is too much or the water too little, the trees will burn down. Obviously, some tree species have more water than others, which is why Hashirama doesn't sport cacti with his tree arsenal.

He's a Senju; his mokuton trees are meant for fighting Uchiha (natural katon users), back in his day at least.

Even if Katon were to burn Mokuton, it wouldn't instantly burn to ash (unless its like Madara's Katon vs one Mokuton branch). The wood would still be under Hashirama's control, and is now in control of flaming Mokuton, which is even worse.
